While we wait for someone to set up Lemmy bots, I guess this manual thread will do for now

Love it. Definitely didn't manage to get in and comment too much in the Reddit community, felt like shouting into a massive crowd. Nice to know there's alternatives to still get my fix of football news!

I saw a stat today that showed the top 10 players in terms of UCL titles and all 10 of them were madrid players as of recently. Had me thinking if there are any clubs that are close to having a squad like that?

I can only imagine only Bayern, Barca and maybe Liverpool? Only those clubs have had any sort of 'dynasty' (i.e. winning consecutive or 2 in 3 years) in the CL/European Cup

Bayern don't nearly have the money to even attempt that. The closest we got was losing the CL Final in Munich, then barely eking a win against Dortmund at Wembley the next season.

Commenting here so that football can be the default sub in lemmy although I think soccer would probably still get more subscribers

As a Bayern fan, I just want to see us pick up a striker for next season. Not having an out-and-out striker killed us...

With so many teams looking for CMs this year I'm quite excited to see who moves where. I was expecting a few teams to really get a good start and to get a signing or two done early, but that clearly isn't going to be the case.

I mean, Liverpool have AMA already, and Real Madrid have Bellingham.

[–] Gingerrific@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yes they do. However Man City, Arsenal, United, Villa, Chelsea, and apparently Bayern are all still looking. Barca is probably trying to pick up one of the many free agents but their situation is complicated. Also, you'll have some selling teams looking for replacements as well and I honestly expected some teams to panic buy for fear of missing out.

I think both of those have been planned for a few months which is probably why they happened so early. Players like Rice and Caicedo seem like they might have longer sagas

Tbf, both of those we've been putting months of work into if reports are right. Just need to get the fees negotiated, which admittedly is going to take forever.

I hope this is the year we(Milan) finally get a rw, dream would be Mahrez but with these clowns at the top there is no chance. Just hope its not Berardi
