General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Anyone know what he is going on about and why this is suddenly worth a speech at 5:45 on a Friday night?

I agree with some of the things he said regarding extremism, but what an utterly bizarre, random statement to make.

Presumably brought on by the election of Galloway, but he'll be gone at the next general election and he hardly ever goes to parliament anyway. So whilst he's an odious crank, it's just a random by-election result that doesn't mean a great deal.

The one impression I got from him is he is scared and has no idea what to do

He mentioned the October 7th attacks but not one word about the 30000+ killed by Israel. Not one word about the humanitarian catastrophe nor the reason why people are protesting, overwhelmingly peacefully.

I think it's the preamble to invading Rochdale?

To be fair they've had it coming for a while.

Speech about extremism. Must be something they need to hide...

Prelude to declaring a state of emergency and cancelling the general election.

I saw a news alert saying conference coming up and thought it might be declaring the election. I watched it live and was equally like what the fuck was the point of that. I swear he doesn't more time talking about Islamic extremism than anything else, but mostly saying nothing at all and offering no new solutions or anything. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking we just was the point of it
