NGL, as someone who constantly types out and repeatedly revises pointless forum post replies like this one, a revamped auto correct system is probably my most anticipated iOS 17 feature.

It's better, but (at least the early version) still isn't awesome. It feels like it's guessing too hard. I wish there was more emphasis on distance to my original input.

The most annoying issue I've encountered are instances where I'm trying to replace text in the middle of a post in order to rephrase a sentence I've already written. I highlight the word and start typing a replacement, but autocorrect clings onto the old word, and when I press space, I end up with both words mashed together instead of just the new word. I have no idea what causes it or even how to replicate it because it isn't consistent, but it baffles me why it occurs.

My son’s name is with the a French spelling, with a e instead of an a on the middle of the name. My phone started by constantly “correcting” it to the US spelling, then one day it started trying with the right spelling, but in ALL CAPS… hope this update will help. Right now I just type his initial letter in my texts…

Do you have him saved as a contact? I've had some trouble with my phone being a bit over vigilant in "correcting" things that are spelled similar as to any of my contacts names and heard similar stuff before, so adding him might help :)

He’s 5. He doesn’t have a phone. But I may create a blank contact for him.

It's the first thing I disable when I (re-)install my iPhone. Hopefully it is a huge improvement and will be released for all languages.
