Saw someone mention it in the weekly thread, found interesting to post something that is good instead of the usual bad stuff

If it's good, Netflix will cancel it halfway through season 2 with no conclusion. I wish this post was sarcasm.

It's renewed for a 2nd season:

"Blue Eye Samurai Has a “Lot More Blood to Spill” in Season 2"

https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/blue-eye-samurai-season-2

Link including trailer.

Luckily Its also on that pirate ship website

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That doesn't help if you want a satisfying conclusion to the story...

[–] Flamingflowerz@kbin.social 24 points 10 months ago (4 children)

I love this show, but I do believe the story is a bit weaker toward the end of the season. I don't want to post spoilers, but some injuries should not be so easily shrugged off lol.

[–] Taniwha420@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I agree. There was a lot about the animation and story that really drew me in, but there are a couple episodes (one in particular) that the 'endurance' of the main character breaks the immersion. It feels a bit like shifting mid show from a grim anime to a superhero cartoon.

I highly recommend the series though.

This is what I've been saying and all my friends think I'm crazy for not worshipping the show 100%! Don't get me wrong, loved every bit of the show up until the 2nd half of the last episode, with many plot holes and unreasonable scenes...

[–] some_guy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 9 months ago

lol anime fans love realism suddenly? smh

[–] hogunner@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Yes that was my one big critique as well but I still very much enjoyed the show.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 10 points 9 months ago

Tried a few episodes but it reeked of weaboo cringe.

[–] mmazikinn@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

not falling for this shit again lol. it'll be canceled by may

[–] hogunner@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

Sadly you’re probably right but it’s still very much worth the watch as the season is pretty self-contained.

[–] Hiro8811@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

From the trailer it feels like a bad anime wannabe

No it got renewed for season 2

[–] Kyuuketsuki@lemmy.ml 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Inside Job was also renewed until it was suddenly rugged, so I'm not holding my breath for anything Netflix produces until it actually airs.

[–] THEDAEMON@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

That is a solid point can't argue . I miss inside job .

[–] blargerer@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The shows fine, but I don't even know if I'd put it in the top 5 best things Netflix put out in 2023. Maybe best original work (assuming it is?)

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I watched it because I saw it was getting crazy good ratings.

It was alright. Decent show, but not the 9.3/10 groundbreaking masterpiece people were claiming it was. I'd watch a second season, but I'm right there with you. It's far from the best thing I saw last year.

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

What would you say was the best thing you watched last year?

[–] brettvitaz@programming.dev 5 points 10 months ago

Animated? Scavenger’s Reign. (I know, you didn’t ask me) I really liked Blue Eyed Samurai until about half way through and then the ending of the season had me wondering what the writers were thinking. Characters motivations stopped making sense.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Scavengers Reign for best animated. Best anything? Honestly, I really liked Twisted Metal. I know that's probably not going to be everyone's top pick, but I had a ton of fun watching it. The Last of Us was also really good.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I am psyched for Season 2. I've been telling everyone to try it.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Does it have a conclusion of sorts for season 1? I'm not interested in getting involved with an ever cliffhanging show that Netflix will cancel before conclusion.

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Season one is enjoyable as a package of just itself. There are some ways in which the ending could be seen as cliffhangery, in that season 2 won't be starting from scratch and some of the characters' arcs will be continued from what we've seen so far in season 1, but that doesn't feel like a cliffhanger to me, more like natural continuation and new beginnings of sorts. That is to say that I think it's a narratively satisfying ending that doesn't require future seasons to be good.

I sympathise with your jadedness. I feel like a lot of Netflix shows end their seasons especially unsatisfyingly, almost as if they're reasoning "if we wrap things up too nicely, we won't get another season", but then they get cancelled anyway. Regardless of season 2, I definitely think Blue Eyed Samurai is worth watching.

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Contrary to the other poster, I think season 1 is full cliffhanger and I was disappointed that the season didn't feel completed. Maybe I'm just being hypercritical, though. Or I just want the characters to have a chance to rest, lol

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 9 months ago

Well heck..now that we're at like 50/50 I'll probably wait, then.

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 1 points 10 months ago

I'll never forgive them for cancelling Santa Clarita Diet

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Im pretty sure it has been renewed for Season 2. Mind you I do think Season 1 does work pretty well as a self contained arc so to speak. It does end in a way that begs for a second season though. So its good we are gonna get one.

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Peaches 🍑

[–] SrTobi@feddit.de 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I thought it was very good. But cyberpunk from last year was better.

[–] exocortex@discuss.tchncs.de -3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

ugh ugh this edgerunner series? that was pure cringe.

based on my opinion about our opinion this new Netflix series might actually be worth the while. /s

If you like a good cyber punk series check out the old series from ~2002ish Ghost in the shell Stand a lone complex. It's really remarkable.

[–] bananabenana@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I am pumped for the next season. The animation was also beautiful
