oh btw are those little baby animals at the upper right corner real? :O They dont look real from this angle but anyway they do look adorable like the rest of the setup x3

[–] bmzero3@kbin.asdfzdfj.xyz 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

if you mean the little cats then it's just a decorative ceramic/porcelain piece. and honestly there isn't much of "setup" other than "my pc sits here", but thank you for the kind words

Well it's still cute x3 Like the cute lil keyboard and the cool flipped screen and the mouse with purple lights and the figurines all look so cute together :3

What operating system is that?

I zoomed in on their terminal and it says both arch and free BSD? How is it both?

Edit: I see SSH in the tab title of the terminal, so I'm guessing one of those is a remote server? Which one tho?

[–] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I would guess the FreeBSD is the remote server as it's usually used as a server os and the archlinux installation has a zen processor that I don't think would be that useful inside a server

[–] bmzero3@kbin.asdfzdfj.xyz 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

if by "zen processor" you mean zen kernel then yes you're correct: iirc (linux) zen kernel is tuned for desktop usage, and also both machines are on ryzen cpu so I don't think that matters here.

the desktop in this image is arch linux, and the remote freebsd machine is actually sitting right behind me, it's also what powers my instance that I'm posting from.

[–] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 months ago

Cool, I didn't know about the zen kernel and thought it was just telling it was a ryzen cpu.

I also want to get my own instance but CGNAT is blocking me until I can get a VPS running.

[–] bmzero3@kbin.asdfzdfj.xyz 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

the desktop in this image is just Arch Linux

  • using E25 for desktop shell, with changed color and slight theme edit to rearrange stuff in title bar a bit
  • kitty for terminal, with the bell sound ripped from terminology because it's a literal bell sound

and another machine running FreeBSD:

  • it's sitting right behind me, hence the ssh to show system info and logo
  • powers my instance which I'm posting this from

Thank you for the detailed info. I’ve never used anything but Windows and Mac but have recently started looking into Linux.

I’ve got my hands on a spare machine to play around on, so I’m going to start learning this weekend.

Co-worker is using Pop_OS, so that is what I’m going to try, with the idea that I can bug him with questions.
