Most Chelsea matches have just been fever dreams as far as I’m concerned. Don’t think I see as many strange and weird events in other matches - not talking about incorrect or controversial - just weird.

Considering we have one of the biggest absentee lists in the league and so fielded quite possibly one of the worst XI’s we could and Chelsea still struggled is a good sign for us. Without VAR, the penalty isn’t given when it should’ve been (pawson said no). then pawson isn’t sure about mitoma dive it’s reviewed and rightly no, but pawson doesn’t book him. then the handball, the ref gives and VAR recommends to overturn it and drop ball as that’s the rules.

todays problems are all on the on field ref Pawson, not VAR.

other incidents: caicedo no second yellow? pawson. milner no second yellow? pawson. corner for brightons goal? pawson.

VAR worked well today.

For all you idiots who refuse to learn the law of the game, Pawson's initial decision was a penalty. VAR saw it was a clear and obvious error hence they told him to check the monitor as VAR cannot make decisions themselves. Pawson checks and sees its not a penalty. Play restarts with a drop ball for the keeper as per the rules of VAR reviews.

Finally a good use of VAR

Chelsea is going to have to find some midfielders to put on their bench for yellow card management purposes.

This ref lost it and him pointing to the spot incorrectly goes to show how rattled he really was. Like holy shit he almost just gave an incorrect penalty call that was cleared by Var, didn’t card Caicedo for his tackles (genuinely think he lost count). For me, the only real controversial call in the game was Caicedo not getting a second yellow for completely studding a Brighton player and going through him from behind a minute before the penalty call.

That was way harder fought than it needed to be, especially in a period where we have 3 games in just over a week. Still, hanging in there should be big for developing some of the players' mentality, especially after last week.

How did Brighton not get a corner at the end after the VAR review?

Edit: People have explained in the replies how it is the correct call according to the rules, but if the ball clearly goes out immediately and no one had the opportunity to stop it had the foul not been called, I feel like the rule should be to give the corner. (I’m not a Brighton fan either)
