Is it normal to just... fall off, and not be as good at gaming? Because I feel like I've been getting worse for a while now.

I had this problem earlier with Spider-Man. I was shocked how uncoordinated I was adjusting to the controls. But I snapped out of the shock once I popped SW Battlefront in and played that decently.

Well idk, I'm 24 years old, been playing since I was 6 years old, but I don't feel like I getting better at games.

I'm 100% sure that I'm taking far longer to learn something on a game and put it to good use, games with a aggressive learning difficulty makes me fairly frustrated.

While puzzle games that I used to hate now seem to be getting easier even for those same older games I remember playing but not solving the puzzles. I can take the tools and look around to solve those puzzles a lot easier now.

It's always a trade off, you get wiser at solving puzzles but less prone to learn new stuff such as how to get good at a fight on a multiplayer game.

This happened to me when I was 18. Then it happened again when I was 23. Now I play most things on easy-medium and enjoy the ride. I played elden ring and used summons for everything. I gave up at the dragon in cuphead. My brain can't solve baba is you puzzles any more. My rank in overwatch dropped by 2 whole divisions

My only good game now is clone hero, but I feel like rhythm games are exceptions to the rule. Looking forward to playing more solo campaigns that don't make me struggle now though and just deliver a good story with fun gameplay

Your reactions go certainly, and age affects the body like hearing/ sight etc.

But also we have less time to do things, that'll be a large part of it

I'm also 41.

Outside of deck builders, my interest in any sort of competitive gaming is basically dead.

I just don't have the patience anymore to "git gud".

I find myself gravitating towards a lot of smaller indie titles, shorter games, things that are less twitch skill based, and games that focus more on story/atmosphere.

Mostly, this is a result of just not having the time (which is more of a feeling than reality) to sink 40+ hours into a title.

Lastly, I've been gaming for so long that I immediately recognize game loops and staples in game design. No matter how good the game may be, I'll often get bored with what typically feels like filler to me.

This is the main reason I find myself trying out weird indie games like The Black Watchmen, Not for Broadcast, Obra Dinn, the Lost Phone games, Her Story, Orwell, Stories Untold, The Talos Principle, What Remains of Edith Finch, Firewatch, etc.

I probably play more interactive fiction and puzzle games than anything else at this point.

That's not to say I don't play AAA, but I'm currently at various stages of completion for GOW Ragnarok, Spiderman Miles Morales, Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, Horizon 2, and several others.

I think one major issue is that sitting down for an hour isn't going to give you much feeling of accomplishment in most AAA games these days.

Hey man, it doesn’t matter if you think you’re falling off, everybody does as they get older. What matters is that you are having fun. Play the game the way you wanna play. As long as you’re having a good time and not ruining others people’s experience.

49 here, I used to absolutely wreck shit from Duke Nukem on TEN to Black Ops II, and then I just started getting my ass handed to me more and more often. Now the last time I kicked ass was 1 chicken dinner in PUBG, and if I do that much coke again it would probably kill me.

Not at all, if you have a family to take care of and a pretty busy work life. It's pretty reasonable to not be as good at gaming since you have other affairs taking up your time but if not, there's also nothing to be ashamed of. The only game I really know how to play is mario and sims 4
