Other than Libretube? Available on fdroid? I want proxied interaction with google apis.

[Edit] After a bit of hunting, I found an app https://www.f-droid.org/packages/app.suhasdissa.vibeyou/ the recommendation service isn't there, but gets the job done.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but NewPipe will play anything from YouTube without ads. Play on background for audio only.

https://github.com/KRTirtho/spotube

In settings you can chose either YouTube or piped

Seems like it doesnt support searching specific tracks without spotify login.

Yeah good recommendation.

I haven't looked into piped, but if you're flexible, both Firefox and newpipe can do this. Newpipe is better.

Newpipe doesn't proxy through Piped tho

[–] Quexotic@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Sounds like I need to learn things. I didn't know piped was a proxy. Lol. Good luck with your search internet friend!

Could you specify what is wrong about Libretube? There is a background playback option and even an audio mode with no video.

[–] rdmemd@lemdro.id 2 points 1 year ago

I wanted to keep my videos and audio recommendations seperate. Also libretube isnt best at recommending tracks.

Musify isnt piped based. Sends requests to youtube, images.genius.com, suggestqueries.google.com, www.lyricsmania.com, to name a few.

Not all piped based, but you can use beatbump.io on desktop. Innertune or ViMusic on Android (both available on FDroid). I prefer InnerTune as you have more control over offline tracks.

[–] rdmemd@lemdro.id 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes its not piped. Both innertube and vimusic sends data to music.youtube.com

[–] aindriu_b 1 points 1 year ago

Didn't realise they sent data to YT/Google. Am now more interested in any answers you get 👍

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

This is cool! Thanks for the suggestion.

Beatbump looks amazing thanks for sharing!

What's piped? You might get better answers if you give a link explaining that.

[–] rdmemd@lemdro.id 5 points 1 year ago

Piped is a yt frontend that proxies the request to youtube from the instance you choose. There are multiple instances available with piped.video being the most popular.

Some time ago, I tried every youtube music client on F-Droid. (I think there were like 8 of them). I think I remember at least one had piped support, but I don't know which one was it. You can try that, too. There really isn't a lot of them.

[–] Fisch@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think Spotube supports that

Edit: Just saw someone else already recommended that but that you need to login with Spotify
