Most of what I found was keys and coins, mostly coppers but I might have a quid total if I'm lucky! Not sure who accepts dirty, heavily tarnished coins though.

Two bikes this time, but I'm pretty sure there's two more down there in the mud. It's really thick mud in that section so I think all the heavy scrap is sunk in there deep down.

I developed a bit of an audience while trying to pull out the second bike and got a round of applause when I eventually pulled it out! It was good to brighten some people's day but I think I'll go somewhere quieter next time. As always I was very pleasantly surprised with the overwhelming majority having positive reactions to what I was doing, and one woman even came and had a go.

Most interesting finds were these two Israeli coins and one Indian coin:

Shame you can only pull out ferromagnetic coins!

Great finds! So far I've only tried fishing in the Danube and I have a few rusty nails to show for it!

brb gonna sub to every magnet fishing community now...

Edit: I guess this is the only community.

I was saying to a passer by that it's a shame that pound coins aren't magnetic. Everyone asks about gold but I've got no chance of finding any this way.

I couldn't find a magnet fishing community, so I created one here. I would welcome posts from anywhere in the world.

Where abouts on the Danube did you go?

Cheers! I'll post if I find anything post worthy!

Budapest. The Danube is my backyard fishing spot I guess! I have heard you can pull out some good stuff but as I've said only nails here so far. Though the larger WW2 shells they found this week (yet again) can stay away from me, tyvm.

I've been meaning to find a better body of water, but first I need to convince myself to research and then my friends to go out!

WW2 ordnance always makes the news, but I'm not sure how common it actually is to find while magnet fishing. I definitely would rather not pull up a bomb but a gun would be cool even if I have to hand it in.

I've found that it can be quite hit and miss how good a spot is, and sometimes I'll be pulling up absolutely nothing, walk 100m and then start pulling up stuff every time. Cities are usually always good because of the amount of people in one place. Some harbours have been really good in my experience but some have been completely empty. The general rule seems to be that the best places are the ones with the most activity either historically or today.

Cleaned up the keys a bit:

The coins are sat in some Cillit Bang, but I'm fairly certain that Barry Scott has misled me about the effectiveness when cleaning pennies.

What kind of setup are you using to fish? I've only recently heard about this hobby. Is it a magnet on the end of an actual fishing rod or just tied to some paracord or something so you can haul heavier items out.

A big magnet on the end of a 20m rope, which you can see attached to the tow hook on my car here:

I bought a kit from Magnetar with near enough everything I needed to get started, including a grappling hook which I swap out with the magnet to pull out bikes and shopping trolleys mostly.

Near the Lloyds Amphitheatre?

[–] ScreamingFirehawk 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Close to there but I didn't try fishing from the edge by the amphitheatre, very good guess!

Chanced upon this and must say this is really neat! Shame this isn't a service for the clumsy ones who drop their phones in the harbour.

[–] ScreamingFirehawk 1 points 7 months ago

Thanks! I need to post from my more recent trips but I haven't got round to it. If anyone asked me to help retrieve their phone I would be happy to help, although they aren't very magnetic so it can be difficult sometimes

Was it somewhere laughing gas was key to putting a spring in your step?

[–] ScreamingFirehawk 3 points 1 year ago

I think I could chuck my magnet into any body of water in Bristol and be guaranteed to pull out laughing gas canisters
