I've heard a lot of people want to change app names. Which I'm totally fine with! I've heard a lot of love for the name "Voyager"

So, thoughts? Do you prefer renaming? Do you like the name "Voyager"? Any other good ideas?

I don't think should is the right word. I personally don't like the name much as it somehow sounds just off-putting to me (it doesn't read like a puppy sound, maybe because I am not a native English speaker). And there is clearly something to it as this is the only app where people are discussing changing the name. Even Jerboa seems to be safe from it even though the name sounds a bit weird.

Voyager seems way nicer and professional to me.

I have no problem with wefwef (although, yes, if it was supposed to read like a puppy sound I didn't get that at all), but if you change it I would not go with Voyager since it is too generic. If you google that, you get lots of hits already (mostly NASA and Star Trek, on my end), so it may make it harder for people to find it?

I prefer voyager, or even “voyage”.

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Voyager does sound cool, and fits the theme of what you’re going for.

But other people mentioning discoverability has me leaning towards keeping the name wefwef. Or come up with an equally unique name.

Maybe we should come up with a new names and put them up for votes.

I can say right now that I don’t like Voyager, haha!

Voyager goes well with the influx of refugees needing a new home

Apollo went by many different names if you wanna go down that route: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo#Greco-Roman_epithets

Maybe look and see whether there are other apps by the name first to avoid collision. Seems likely to be a common name.

Voyager sounds like an excellent name mate, much easier to tell new people. "hey Reddit is shit, download voyager instead"

Another vote for Voyager.

Voyager is nice. If we end up liking and using it a lot, we will give it a silly nickname.

Reddit is a dumb name. Silly/dumb names work IMO.

How about Fluffy for Lemmy

wefwef is unique as an identity and the all lowercase styling makes it even more so.

I vote for wefwef and hopes it remains that way!

Am I the only one who doesn't know what wefwef stands for?

+1 for Voyager, things are still young and evolving.

How do I install the app? Cannot find it on Play

[–] tirestarter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's a PWA (progressive web app). If you open the site on Chrome, then go to the Settings -> Install page, it should show some instructions on how to add the page to your home screen. Upon doing so, the next time you open it from the newly added icon, it should open in its own window looking like an app as opposed to a tab on Chrome
