In the web interface, search "all" with the link. Worked for me

Lemmy communities appear as users in mastodon. But you can't follow a lemmy user from mastodon, I don't think.

[โ€“] Emperor 1 points 1 year ago

Yes you can - I've followed my accounts at Lemmy, Pixelfed, Bookwyrm and Peertube from Mastodon and it is definitely pulling in my Lemmy posts (I have yet to post on the other three yet but will do that soon as I am testing out how interconnected everything is). I made a "me" list on Tusky to collect them together:

You can see you can then reply, boost, etc through the Mastodon app of your choice.

As I say, it's early days and I am still experimenting. My main finding was that it could take a few goes for Mastodon to find the accounts, but it does in the end.

That looks like too much... stuff in the URL.

It looks like:

  • you are on mastdn.social
  • trying to view the user: @Argyle13@xarxa.cloud
  • whose link would be something like: https://xarxa.cloud/@Argyle13
  • making them: Celia Valdeolmillos
  • the post ID would then, I assume, be: 110615667838401899

edit: and just to say that using the link above in the way I demonstrated gets that user's profile brought through.

Thanks for the URL dissection, still cant make contact with mstd instance

Maybe im out of touch

I got it to work through the Lemmy web interface before but can't make it work now. Equally, I can't get their profile up to follow on Mastodon.

I don't know the cause of that but it might be an issue with that instance or federation in general.

edit and now it works just fine. Keep plugging away.

Worth noting that, as I posted the link above, the profile now appears below my post.

That's beyond my meager understanding of things I'm afraid. I might have to chalk that up to teething troubles and try again later.

~~Bear with me while I try something~~ nope, didn't work

My other suggestion would be to get a Mastodon account. It's a different beast to Lemmy and my experiments suggest it is better suited to act as a hub for your Fediverse life.

[โ€“] DonDino@mujico.org 2 points 1 year ago

The fediverse is still so young and complex!

But thanks for all your help emperor :)

At least our instances are working as expected

You can interact with Lemmy posts from Mastodon but I'm not sure about Mastodon from Lemmy. if you enter your name @DonDino@mujico.org in your Mastodon search bar you will have federated your Lemmy and Mastodon instances and you will be able to view a copy of your Lemmy posts and discussions on Mastodon and other Masto users who are federated with you can see these and boost or reply as well. It's also helpful to enter the handle of the Lemmy community you'd like to view in the Mastodon search bar ( asklemmy@lemmy.ml for this community specifically ) and you can follow Lemmy discussion for specific communities there and boost them to share to your Mastodon followers.

Sorry if I misunderstood. Unfortunately I don't believe the opposite is possible so you won't be able to see Mastodon posts in your Lemmy feed the way you can see Kbin posts. Maybe someone else has a more useful answer.

That seems pretty comprehensive as far as the current state of.play is on Lemmy as you can't follow individuals on here as you can in Mastodon (as that's kind of it's thing) or on Reddit. I suspect this should be in the pipeline as it clearly works from Mastodon to Lemmy so the underlying structure is there. It may be they didn't initially implement it because it could make feeds... messy or they just had better things to do with their time as there is a lot to get done.
