I found it interesting that the rave scene was an unlikely natural experiment for studying the effects of MDMA.

And just being less British:

“MDMA didn’t reform the UK, but it did change some social norms: men were hugging for the first time, or people from different socioeconomic stratospheres were partying together, instead of looking down on each other,” Nuwer said.

Even David Cameron went to see raves. Didn't stop him being a bell-end though.
