A bit of a misleading title. This is a break in protocol for Macron, and not for any member of the opposition in parliament.
It is more than normal for opposition leaders to meet with other heads of state in preparation for power. Obama had talks with Corbyn in 2015, Cameron famously met with Obama before he was elected president.
