Yesterday I was invited to a DND campaign. It will be my first

How exciting! Do you know what class you'll be playing or anything about the setting?

I know it's 5th edition.

Never played before so absolutely no idea what to expect.

It's juvenile but...my nephews were wrestling, and the older one made the younger one laugh so hard that he shat his pants. The older one said his brother "sneezed out the wrong end" and I absolutely perished. That kid is funny.

My coworker took a shift for me, which allowed me to rest up a little when I was sick, and my cat is so sweet to me when I don’t feel well. She curled up on my chest for most of the day and scolded me for not resting enough.

I stumbled into the Superbowl forum from a link in another comment and thought it would be football memes, but was pleasantly surprised by superb owls. Coincidentally, the power went out that same evening in the wee hours of the morning and with all the noise in the house muted I heard an owl hooting from outside.

I can also barely remember last week. Maybe hearing my cats cystitis got better

Got to play a co-op board game with some long time friends. We got our butts kicked, but they enjoyed it so much that we've got plans to play regularly now.

Boardgame night at my sister's house. She's raising a family, I chose to live child-free. Those nights together allow her to just be an adult, not a parent, and allow me to hang out with my sister. It's lovely.

I’m a snowboarder. Yesterday my friend and I went on a side country (backcountry accessible from the resort, not patrolled, much more inherent risk) adventure in waist deep snow and old growth forest and while we didn’t hit the line we intended to hit we still had a great time. The only tracks we saw were animal tracks. And lower down, a ski track from someone with similar ideas to us.

It’s really fun to navigate all the drainages and pick out a good line while not getting injured or too far from each other. The snow was phenomenal. We had insane wind and upslope snow showers for like two weeks that just dumped a ton of snow on certain aspects.

In a warming world where snow is less common than ever it feels really special to be out there. As special as seeing the milky way from my backyard on a clear night.

Not quite last week but on New Year's eve a Palestinian comrade we have been working with to coordinate funds and food aid for families in Gaza sent us one of the most surreal images I have ever seen.

https://hexbear.net/post/4198302

A picture of the fruits of our efforts in the form of the hexbear logo on a huge bag of flour that has made it to the Gaza strip. Absolutely wild that the last thing I saw on our obscure little shitposting site in 2024 was much needed material aid with our site banner and a thank you message in Arabic in the middle of a warzone. We often talk about posting not being praxis but every now and then this wonderful community surprises me in incredible ways.
