Kings 2:23-24

23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

I hope they include this. We should instill the fear of random bear attacks in boys. Otherwise they'll make fun of me when I inevitably go bald.

This is a pretty crap translation. What they said was more akin to "go up, baldy!" The context being Elijah ascended into heaven. They were basically telling him to "go die".

Oh, you're just asking for a bear attack!

Do the bears have a full head of hair at least? I don't want to get mailed by some naked scalped ursidae.

[–] Greg@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, they'll be weird looking hairless bears

2 Samuel 3:14

It's a nice verse about calculating the area of a circle, I swear

I will wait patiently for the Satanic Church to argue in court that if there is Christian curriculums then there must be Satanic and other religions. Then they will withdraw the law and the cycle will continue. Donate to your local satanic temple, they are magnificent trolls.

FYI, it's the Satanic Temple that takes legal action, the Satanic Church does not. They are two separate and very different organizations.

You have way too much faith in the court system. The Supreme Court is likely lost entirely.

As a Christian, if someone tried to teach the Bible to my kid without my consent, I’d fuck them up. Mostly because they are all Pharisees nowadays, no actual study or following of the moral lessons of Christ

I'd honestly like to hear your take more broadly (what's going on with the christians) on the topic if you were willing to share. I was brought up in the (babtist) church but no longer hold faith. Even still I like what JC had to say and have been appalled by what's been going on because it is so far from what I was raised to understand. I'd be very curious to hear what someone with faith feels about the situation.

Of course, but if words have any meaning then America is loaded with "Christians" who are clearly lying.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That's part of being a true Christian. The point is the forgiveness, not being good from the start.

Only the Fundy one though, not the real Jeebus.

Next will be equal curriculum time spent on science class and creationist class, with a couple shoehorned in references to Judaism to stave off any claims of Christian nationalist propaganda.

Well, I certainly hope they use Timothy 2:12 in their teachings. Keep 'em in their place, the kitchen, and I'm sure there are plenty of people from the superior gender who are more qualified.

If I were a teacher in Texas, I would think, "you have no idea what you have just done." The New Testament is a very subversive book if you actually read it. Time to start having class discussions about Marxist philosophy centered around various Bible passages. Time to start teaching lessons with completely different conclusions, each based directly on Bible verses, in order to reveal the internal contradictions.
