Should that be rogue's attack at the top? They do one big attack, rangers get extra attack.

I run a thief rogue with two hand crossbows, it's three hits a turn

Rogue doesn't get the extra attack, and only has 1 bonus action, so at most it would be 2 attacks, no? Thieves don't have any kind of extra attack of bonus action or nothing: https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Thief#content

Main attack is Action+Bonus action, and then I have a bonus action left over. I spend it on a bonus offhand attack. One, two, and then 3 hits a turn.

You are talking about Baldur's Gate 3, right? This is the tabletop rpg instance, it would be cool if you at least mentioned that. They did some changes to the classes, the thief gets two bonus actions in BG3 but not in tabletop dnd5e, for example. Also, you would need the crossbow expert feat as the other poster mentioned to even use your bonus action to shoot with the offhand.

Turns out I don't read the names of communities when I drink, I just assume like a jackass XD

I am 100% speaking to my BG3 experience, mb!

I'm also a jackass, I was already sure of it but I wanted to make you admit it . Hope you enjoy the gameplay!

Fair enough, but I think a ranger could also do that as well as their extra attack (you're just using the crossbow expert feat right?)

Wait, how do Fighters attack so much more than a monk?

Is it action surge?
Does it actually make Fighters attack so much more than a monk?

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Action surge is a part of it, but that is only usable once per short rest

Max level Fighters get Extra Attack 3 which grants 4 attacks before spending their Bonus Action or a single resource. Add in things like Action Surge and some source of a Bonus Action attack (Polearm Master, Crossbow Expert, or even off hand weapon) and Fighters can easily get 9 Attacks.

So, compared to Paladins and Rangers; action surge
Compared to Monks; nah lol

If my monk didn’t hit like wet tissue paper it’d be way more fun :/

If you're using Tasha's then Gunner and Dedicated Weapon let you grab a musket. If your DM lets you use Focused Aim even on attacks you might hit with then it can trigger Ki Fueled Attack easily. It's passable damage plus being ranged means you can take advantage of Monk's mobility to actually skirmish and take cover as opposed to being saddled with the bootleg ranged combat that is typical melee skirmishing in 5e.

i think my main gripe is that in 4e I was a whirling dervish of death by punches (spinning leopard maneuver), but with 5e now it’s just… thwap thwap thwap.

Never considered ranged monk, fascinating.
