Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Much of the analysis below is sourced from Michael Roberts' great website.

Japan's ruling parliamentary coalition, consisting of the LDP (purple) and it's junior coalition partner Komeito (in light pink) have lost their ruling majority. They have ruled post-war Japan for almost its entire history. The LDP is currently led by Shigeru Ishiba after Kishida stood down due to a corruption scandal, and ties to the Unification Church.

While geopolitical factors (over the cold war between the US and China, etc) may have played a role, by far the biggest reason for this result in the poor economic conditions over the past few years. Inflation has risen and real wages have fallen, with little relief for the working class via things like tax reductions. While inequality in Japan is not as extreme as in America, it is still profound, with the top 10% possessing 60% of the wealth, while the bottom 50% possess just 5%.

Shinzo Abe previously tried to boost economic performance through monetary easing and fiscal deficits, while Kishida ran on a "new capitalism" which rejected Abe's neoliberalism and promised to reduce inequality. Nothing substantial has resulted from all this, however, other than increasing corporate wealth. Innovation continues to fall, and domestic profitability is low, resulting in decreasing investment at home by Japanese corporations. Labour productivity growth has only slightly picked up since the mid-2000s and is falling again. The rate of profit has fallen by half since the 1960s, and Japan has been in a manufacturing recession - or very close to it - since late 2022. In essence: there is no choice but between stagnation or decline.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

I vaguely remember Obama, still as president, making a speech where he says in no uncertain terms that 'the US shouldn't go into Ukraine' because 'it's way more important to the Russians than to America and therefore Russia will put much more into than the US ever will'. Which goes to show that the guy was a pretty good steward of empire whenever he didn't listen to his dumbass secretary of state. If someone knows what I'm talking about, much obliged.

It really does seem like the momentum has shifted in Kamala’s favor. While I do think it’s still basically a coin flip, I’ve gone from slightly favoring Trump to slightly favoring Kamala in the last couple days.

And if Kamala ends up winning and you’re feeling a bummed about it, just remember that we cannot “punish” the Democratic Party. If they do lose Michigan due to Gaza and losing Michigan causes them to lose it all, that will not change their policies and attitude towards Palestinians one iota. They will not have a come-to-Jesus moment and decide they need to change course. The genocide in Gaza is America’s genocide, subcontracted out to the Israelis. The current uniparty policy of fascism and imperial domination of Western Asia will continue unabated regardless of who is president. We have to find alternate routes and do what we can to support the Resistance, in whom the only hope for liberation rests.

Egypt under Sisi: https://xcancel.com/ainiladra/status/1852633271814795715

after a zionist warship was seen traversing through the suez canal, they issued a statement (without mentioning the identity of the ship) invoking the constantinople convention which allows for passage of all ships in times of peace or war ... but its a genocide you numbnuts

The whole “Ana Kasparian is turning right-wing for money” is an annoying narrative. Now I personally don’t care about tyt drama but it points to a larger issue that baby leftists don’t know how to deal with.

Seeing your comrades get older and a number of them turning right-wing over some stupid culture war shit happens all the time and they don’t need paychecks to make the turn.

I’ve seen a number of former guerrilla fighters from our civil war turn right wing because they hated how the current left has embraced homosexuals more. None of them are rich either or making the rounds with local right-wing personalities.

Claiming that anybody making the switch purely for financial reasons or “they were never a leftist to begin with” overlooks the bleak reality that anybody can get stuck in culture war nonsense at some point if they’re unable to adapt with the changing social climates.

The KKKneSSet has just alao banned UNWRA from operating within Gaza and the West Bank. Humanitarian groups and international workers are also banned from further entry and in 90 days, any remaining UNWRA operations will be hijacked, bombed or killed. The delivery of any aid is also very likely to be halted in totality, officially making food illegal.

This while the South African judges are on their flights back to South Africa from the Netherlands.

It’s wild that the Kamala campaign wants the genocide to continue more than they want to win the election. It’s like they dont imagine they can be the administration helping with the genocide while actually being the administration aiding with a genocide.

It’s not an xbox controller you hand over when it’s their turn, this was supposed to be a recognized collapse of policy and decorum looked down upon throughout the world.

According to the broadcaster, there are “hundreds of lawyers” across the country and in swing states with “thousands of papers” to legally challenge whatever is done by Trump.

The publisher of Israel’s left-wing/liberal Zionist newspaper Ha’aretz has kicked up a storm.

He said at a London conference that those whom Israel calls terrorists are Palestinian freedom fighters.

Israel’s Interior Ministry has announced it is cutting ties with Ha’aretz.

https://www.euronews.com/business/2024/10/28/volkswagen-set-to-close-three-german-plants-and-cut-thousands-of-jobs

"Volkswagen's management wants to close at least three plants, cut tens of thousands of jobs, and also slash pay by 10% for remaining staff, according to a statement from staff representatives."

Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Thomas Schäfer said: "We have to get to the root of the problems: we are not productive enough at our German sites and our factory costs are currently 25 to 50 percent above target. This means that some of our German plants are twice as expensive as our competitors."

He stressed that operations "cannot continue as before".

Pretty funny how boomer liberals who grew up with Nixon as their Trump are now voting and cheering for people to the right of him and Kissinger.

What prompted this thought was finding out that Stephen King supported Gary Hart’s run for presidency back in 1984. Gary Hart was one of the earlier adopters of neoliberalism in the Democratic Party that would eventually become the New Democrats.

UN report accuses Israel of ‘deliberate war crimes’ against Gaza’s healthcare system

Navi Pillay, a member of the UN Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, says an independent investigation found Israel is carrying out a “concerted policy” to destroy Gaza’s health system.

“This is just not reporting what we see on social media, but a very carefully fact-checked account of the destruction of hospitals, the deliberate targeting of doctors,” Pillay told Al Jazeera.

“It’s also the first United Nations report that … drew the conclusion there is the deliberate targeting of healthcare workers, the healthcare system in itself – which is a crime, a war crime.”

Israel makes it difficult to probe its deadly attacks by denying entry to independent investigators, Pillay added.

The report, delivered on Wednesday, concluded: “Israel has perpetrated a concerted policy to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system as part of a broader assault on the Strip, committing war crimes and a crime against humanity of extermination with relentless and deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities.”

Just more undeniable evidence of war crimes and genocide that the US will do their “it doesn’t look like anything to me” bit.

Japan’s Mount Fuji stays snowcap-free for longer than ever before
No snowfall has yet been observed on Japan’s highest mountain – the latest date since comparative data became available in 1894

But because of warm weather, this year no snowfall has yet been observed on Japan’s highest mountain, said Yutaka Katsuta, a forecaster at Kofu Local Meteorological Office.

That marks the latest date since comparative data became available in 1894, he said beating the previous record of October 26 – seen twice, in 1955 and then in 2016.
