I live 85 miles from Albuquerque . There is a rail that goes through town. But to take the commuter train to the city I have to drive 55 miles. The same rail goes all the way to Denver, but to take a train from Albuquerque to Denver I have to go to Chicago.

That's exactly why it shouldn't be about making money, but serving the travelers across the country. Breaking even should be a win, it would certainly be a win for the environment.
There is a rail that goes from El Paso to Denver at least, but no passenger trains. When my dad moved to NM in the late 60s he said there was a passenger train that went all the way between the two, then I-25 was built and the train vanished.
I went to college in a town called college station. By the time I was a student public service had been shut down for 20 years. But we still had to put up with the mile long freight trains running right through the middle of town at rush hour grinding everything to a halt.
Now locals are fighting the idea of high-speed rail coming within a hundred miles of the city.
Canada wants CN Rail back from Bill Gates, K? Thanks!
What does that mean? Did Gates buy out your public rail or something?
CN Rail was sold back in 1995 and now Bill games owns majority stakes in CN (Canadian National) Rail
I feel like you could pretty much just Mad Libs that and any input would work.
