Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

Well, Iran and their allies' response may happen sometime this week and apparently they aren't talking to the US in order to negotiate how and where they will hit Israel (and Shoigu arrived in Tehran rather auspiciously), the Bangladeshi government just fell, F16s have been given to Ukraine, there are fascist riots in the UK, and Japan just had its worst stock fall since 1987 and seems to be taking several other countries/corporations with it. I don't really know where to look right now.

The COTW (Country of the Week) label is designed to spur discussion and debate about a specific country every week in order to help the community gain greater understanding of the domestic situation of often-understudied nations. If you've wanted to talk about the country or share your experiences, but have never found a relevant place to do so, now is your chance! However, don't worry - this is still a general news megathread where you can post about ongoing events from any country.

The Country of the Week is Iraq! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

YouTube Bans Diosdado Cabello’s Channel Con el Mazo Dando, Social Media Haters Detained

The US media conglomerate YouTube closed the channel of the television program Con el mazo dando hosted by the vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, after having sent him the silver plaque in recognition and certification of surpassing 100,000 subscribers a few days ago.

Demonstrating the meaning of digital fascism and the hegemonic manipulation of media by the United States, YouTube closed Cabello’s channel for no apparent reason and without warning, as reported on Saturday, August 10. YouTube usually closes channels when they incur in some breach of its rules or when it receives a complaint from users who consider the content published to be inappropriate.

Last Wednesday, Diosdado Cabello had hinted at the inminent censorship of the Youtube channel when he showed the plaque sent by YouTube after reaching 100,000 subscribers.

“Cry now right-wingers! They will take down this channel next week, I am sure. You will see why the oligarchs are going to submit complaints,” Cabello commented during the program.

Six individuals who were creating content for social media platforms calling for harassing people close to the government were arrested by the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), reported Últimas Noticias.

During the violent protests and riots promoted by the Venezuelan far-right opposition during July 29-30, hundreds of accounts on all social media platforms began to make public calls for the assassination of high-profile Chavistas and grassroots Chavista leaders and for violence against any Chavistas just for their political leanings.

I think it would be interesting to archive the Maduro Podcast in case YT bans it. It could become Lost Media.

Just back from the forest. Any news I must know? New storylines?

Previously come back from forest to: trump covid, trump shot, Russian offensives, Ukrainian offensives, Biden drop out. so I assume something has happened this time also.

Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office opens investigation against Edmundo González, opposition candidate in the country's elections, and María Corina Machado, opposition leader, for falsely announcing a winner in the elections other than the one proclaimed by the electoral body. They are charged with 7 crimes, including incitement to insurrection, conspiracy and criminal association.

A poll made by the humanitarian organisation Danish Church Aid shows that five percent of Danes experienced not being able to afford enough food within the last year. A further five percent reports that members of their household are skipping meals on a weekly basis due to economic poverty.

Three percent reported to have been unable to heat their homes properly and five percent reported to have weekly worries over being unable to afford their current housing.

Denmark's succdem-led right-wing regime has committed itself to UN goals of halving the number of people living in poverty by 2030, yet no focused effort is made to improve the humanitarian situation. To the contrary, the Danish regime is pursuing a policy of deliberately keeping demographics they consider undesirable, like the unemployed, the handicapped or non-whites, below the poverty line, claiming it will incentivise employment.

The Danish regime has embarked on a head over heels heels policy of aggressive military buildup, including a replacement of the entire navy.
