Sunday, May 26, 2024: Sunday again!

I underhydrated the lather in the beginning, and it was not as slick as it could have been. And I continue to use this soap in spite of the scent rather than because of it.

Have a nice day!

I continue to use this soap in spite of the scent rather than because of it.

Ouch! Not a fan of leather, plum, tobacco, and the smell of the universe's inexorable march to heat death?

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

the smell of the universe's inexorable march to heat death?

That must be the scent bothering me 🀣

But I very much like the base, and maybe the scent will grow on me (inch'allah)

Do you like Cerberus? I think they go well together

I can't find the PM in Jerboa, I'll check later in the browser

I PMd you on signal :) Lemmy PMs are terrible.

If you link a matrix.org account to your lemmy account, then the "secure pm" feature works super well, though.

Ouch++;

@PorkButtsNTaters666 Entropy Man’s fragrance stumped me for the first couple of uses, then I had an β€œaha” moment with it. Now it is a scent I need to have available.

Plus, @djundjila and I think it is Sri’s nod to Boltzmann; literally the entropy man. I chatted for a while with Sri at the Maggard Meetup but forgot to ask him about this. At some point I will.

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

@djundjila mentionned it was sweet, but Ididn't expect this kind of scent 🀷

I enjoy Narcisse by Le Père Lucien, which is also based on tobacco, but it's a much more floral take. I'll see what the future brings

I agree. The plum note in the scent was a stroke of genius IMHO.

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (6)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - FougΓ¨re Classique - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - The Night Before - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm

My sister and her kids are in town. Their dad doesn't shave, so my sister hyped the kids up with the opportunity to see how shaving works. It disrupted the zen, but the kids got a kick out of seeing a lather-covered face.

The Night Before is one of my favorite scents in wetshaving. I wish so bad I had a frag of it.

Third Time's the Charm?

  • Brush: Zenith B8 (XL aluminium handle, 28 mm Γ— 57 mm boar)
  • Razor: Razorock Hawk V3 (standard plate)
  • Blade: Feather Professional
  • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. AG 1889
  • Aftershave: Chicago Grooming Co. AG 1889
  • Fragrance: Creed Wind Flowers

I decided to give AG 1889 another chance after burning me the first to times, because I really enjoy this scent. I've started a moisturiser routine in the evening a while back, and I was wondering whether it would impact my sensitivity to the fragrance oils in AG 1889.

The answer is "a little". I didn't feel a tingling until the third pass.

Tingling aside, great shave with Wally's super intuitive Hawk and the Darkwing base.

Did you try to bowl lather? That cuts irritation for me quite considerably...

I haven't.

I've stopped bowl lathering (except for smushes and samples) a couple years ago because I enjoy face lathering more.

Mike's vetiver with a fresh Feather in a kamisori style straight. Living the dream my friends... living the dream.

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I should probably get a Mike's Vetiver... I love vetiver. Have you tried Orange, Cedarwood, and Black Pepper? That one sounds amazing, too. It's out of stock, though.

[–] sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My Orange, Cedarwood, and Black Pepper just came in yesterday. I haven't lathered it yet, but off the tub it smells great.

Sorry, if I may have partly kept you from buying a tub of it. Could I send you a smush?

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 6 months ago

That'd be hilarious if you bought the last tub. I know he's slow to restock things sometimes, but I'm sure it'll come back eventually.

As for a smush, I usually say no to those, but I have always been curious about Mike's and that scent in particular. I'll send you a PM with my address. Thanks!

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I have not. In about 8 years I'll be ready to order a new soap, so I'll try then. πŸ˜„

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 6 months ago

!remindme about 8 years

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I should use my Feather kamisori more often. What shavette do you have?

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Hmm... what is a shavette?

A straight razor with an exchangeable blade. A standard straight razor has a fix blade.

May 26, 2024

  • Brush: Wild West Brushworks Blue Space 26mm Cashmere
  • Blade Holder: Gillette Aristocrat US (1948-1951)
  • Blade: Personna Platinum (3)
  • Lather: E&S Rasage - Azur - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner
  • Aftershave: E&S Rasage - Azur - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a quick shave today but great nonetheless. Azur really captures that mediterranean coast vibe. The Monaco Grand Prix F1 race was today, and Monaco is at the northeast end of CΓ΄te d'Azur, so the choice of today's setup seemed fitting.

  • Prep: head and face wash
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn (Fig)
  • Blade: Derby Premium half DE
  • Brush: Omega Roma Colosseo 31 mm
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - The Full Measure of Man
  • Post Shave: Moon Soaps Old School balm; moisturiser

Me coming back after a long hiatus is slowly but surely becoming a running gag; so yeah, I did a damn good wetshave again.

2 pass head shave. I underhydrated the lather a tiny bit, but it was still a very comfortable shave. FMoM is truly great, it's kinda close to HoM Tobacconist which is definitely in my Top 3, so I like it a lot!

After my midterm exams and working for two days, I had some time to recover now and began to engross myself in different creative things: I started seriously learning keyboard and bass guitar (yup, parallel - it's kinda crazy but it has its benefits already) and took up reading more again since I want to start writing my own stuff. Today I started American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis in english - so far I am fine despite english only being my second language. Did you know that Patrick Bateman recommended lathering with a brush since it lifts beard hair up better? Well, now you know!
I also have tomorrow off so I'll try to do something cool. Have a great week, folks!

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Well, as an American, I'm often told by friends in the UK, and multi-lingual Europeans, that my English is atrocious :-)

Not so sure one should place a high value on info from Patrick Bateman ;-)

[–] DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That seems like snobbery to me. Your posts are well readable and more people should realise that there's quite a sizable difference between British English and American English.

Oh, definitely not. I just thought it was an interesting tidbit since this was completely omitted in the movie scene. Didn't really think that the vain yuppie psycho killer would recommend a shaving brush - then again, it's set in the 80s where brush use was far more common. Also, no offense meant since I am also guilty of this: the way we describe our routines in wetshaving down to the smallest detail is very akin to Patrick Bateman's inner monologue - at least the one in the book.

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, these insults are generally good natured. Many people in my generation aren't particularly emotionally sensitive, and some of us don't mind a bit of banter.

Oh, I understand. There's been worse said to me and said by me to others during friendly banter. Just wanted to remark that I genuinely find your posts and comments well-written and can't imagine your spoken word to be worse. Simple text-based communication is not that well suited to convey such hidden compliments. No ill intent towards your friends from my side ✌🏻
