I’d think that it needs to just to take back some market share.
What the author fails to mention is that Sony is about to release PS5 Pro this Autumn so why would they be in a hurry to release PS6? Just because Micro$oft did it? Last quarter PS5 has been outselling Xbox 5:1, the only way for Microsoft to make any decent money now is to release their games on their rival's console, so a rumoured release of a new console in 2 years is not going to change too much, I think.
