You absolutely don't have to. But when you're a Christian, you love God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul; and you love your neighbor as yourself. The result is that you do good works by virtue of doing God's will. Good works are a result of salvation.
What a rosy colored and false view of the world and how christians act.
i think @10A generally does describe what I learned in my past growing up in a Christian household - although I'm not religious anymore. It's not about doing bad stuff and then being saved, but just doing good things as a result of believing in God and striving to be like Jesus and whatnot.
Now, whether people who claim to be Christians act in that way is another story - in my experience Christianity that I witness in the world today is very contradictory from whatever the Bible says lol
