I'm not sure who designed the UI to include a huge image, but I'd really like something more like reddit with RES that's mainly text oriented.

Is there some way to get this, except by customizing CSS?

Seeing such a big focus on thumbnails and having so few posts per page makes it very hard for me to use.

If you're on Android, Jerboa allows you to control font size and feed type (cards, list...) so you can make it pretty condensed. I use List and font 14, and view about a dozen posts/scroll

Unfortunately not android, but desktop/web.
