IMO the whole Britpop designation was a terrible construction of the British music press of the time. However, if I was forced to pick the music of only one of the bands with this label to take to a desert island …it might be Pulp.

I think this band deserve more love, they're sort of punk folk rock. They have a new album out recently too (I'll Put My Voodoo On You).

An instant classic(1999): Gangster Rap of sorts with ex-convicts, quite a few professional killers among them, telling you "Crime does not pay" with haunting music producing an intense and appropriate counter point.

From their new album Smile that is The Guardian's pick for album of the week.

They came up in a longer article about up and coming British metal bands and they were the stand-out band for me.
