The cause of a "terrible" stench plaguing passengers at Leeds City Bus Station has been revealed.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds' Message the Mayor, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said the odour had been caused by spilt milk.

Staff previously told the BBC it had been lingering in the bus station's main foyer for more than 10 days, with customers likening it to a cow farm and fish.

A simple explanation but then they go a.bit Alan Partridge:

At the scene - Steve Jones, BBC Yorkshire

I was here on Sunday and the stench was overpowering, with passengers visibly affected.

While it may not be quite as pungent two days on, people are still holding their noses as they hurry to the exit.

One group of girls even ran to the doors to escape for some fresh air.

Leeds Festival music fans have been left furious following the closure of two of its stages - including the legendary Radio 1 tent - for the rest of the weekend. Storm Lilian's wrath wreaked havoc in Yorkshire, making it unsafe for some of the stages to open at the Branham Park festival.

Hopeful attendees had been setting up camp but the storm's impact was so severe the Radio 1 tent and the Aux stage have been declared "lost". The Chevron stage was also shut but this will reopen today. The organisers expressed their deep regret but that "mother nature had played her part".

"Revellers at Leeds Festival have been warned to stay in their tents as the site has been battered by gales amid Storm Lilian.

Two stages "have been lost" amid drastic changes organisers have had to make due to the weather. Leeds Festival wrote on X: "We can see an end in sight to the high winds. We definitely won't be opening the arena at 11am, but we are targeting as soon as possible after that and we will update you further..."

A police car was flipped on to its side after unrest broke out in Leeds on Thursday evening, and local people were advised to stay at home.

Footage on social media appeared to show people throwing objects at the police vehicle before it was pushed over in Harehills, just east of the city centre.

Videos posted on X appeared to show vehicles on fire including a bus.

By 10.30pm, police had left the scene but a helicopter remained in the sky above Harehills.

A bus was set alight on Foundry Approach and was still burning with flames towering above the red brick houses and thick black smoke could be seen for miles. . The occasional bang could be heard from the blaze as people seemingly threw explosives, and small crowds of people ran screaming each time an explosion occurred.

Another smaller fire in a road junction on Harehills Lane was kept alight, with people throwing debris on to it.

A Frenchman who also worked in the United Kingdom and the United States, Le Prince's motion-picture experiments culminated in 1888 in Leeds, England. In October of that year, he filmed moving-picture sequences of family members in Roundhay Garden and his son playing the accordion, using his single-lens camera and Eastman's paper negative film. At some point in the following eighteen months he also made a film of Leeds Bridge. This work may have been slightly in advance of the inventions of contemporaneous moving-picture pioneers, such as the British inventors William Friese-Greene and Wordsworth Donisthorpe, and was years in advance of that of Auguste and Louis Lumière and William Kennedy Dickson (who did the moving image work for Thomas Edison).

A nice early morning walk around Roundhay is always a great way to take in some clear air and just reset from a busy week. You cannot argue to beauty of the place.
