If I use arkenfox and make a bunch of overrides, do I need to make sure to back it up and manually install on every fresh installation or does Firefox Sync take care of that?

Is there any download Manager extension for Firefox for Android?

I recently switched to Firefox on Android from Chrome for obvious reasons. It's great! Except the new tab page is a piece of shit. I've already disabled all the sponsor rubbish and stuff*, I want to choose specific links to put there and stop it from adding links to random places I happen to visit that I can't get rid of without removing it from my history. Why this behaves like this is beyond me. I should be able to SET my shortcuts, not have to rely on Firefox to hopefully pick the right ones for me and then have to put up with every other one it decides to add or wipe them from my history.

*Why are these options so poor? I don't want recent bookmarks on this page, I want the ones I've used the most, which will have been bookmarked the longest. Recently visited? "Hey do you wanna return to that one Google search from a day ago?" Why!?

Whilst I'm here, can I change tabs to work like Chrome. I.e. currently on Firefox when I'm on the new tab page, and I click a shortcut, it then opens a tab, pressing back goes back to the new tab page but leaves the tab open in the background rather than closing it.

The new tab page should be part of the new tab, hence the name, so when I press back I should still be in that tab, but back to the new tab page, and without any tabs open in the background that I now have to go and close myself. If I don't choose them, next time I go to that site by pressing the shortcut, it'll open the already loaded tab instead, forcing me to refresh it manually and adding a superfluous step for literally no rational reason I can think of. Firefox seems to act like a tab is launched from the new tab page, rather than the new tab page is the first page you see in a new tab.

I hate these behaviours, they don't make sense, so thanks in advance for at least trying to fix them for me.

I don't need FF sync so is there any option available in about:config of mull(android) to disable it like tor browser.

I recently installed Debian 12 using Xfce on my SUPER old chromebook to extend its life. Everything has been really nice so far. But I use the chromebook for browsing 90% of the time, so I like to have everything as easily operated as possible, and I am used to being able to navigate forward and back in the browser using two finger swipe gestures.
After some googling, I saw that the support for this just got added in Wayland environments. That implies that it already existed in X11 environments? After a while, I found that if you hold 'alt' you can use the swipe gestures. It defeats the purpose of gestures if you have to use both hands, so I was hoping there was a way to get this functionality back.

(Mozilla Firefox version = 115.6.0esr)

The issue:

Android users with Firefox can't access Google Search (including intl sites and localized domains like google.de, .co.uk, .com.br). Instead, they see a blank page.

Cause:

A server-side bug on Google's end related to User-Agent (UA) sniffing, which serves an empty page to newer Firefox versions.

Affected versions:

All Firefox versions on Android (>= 65) including Mobile 121.0, Nightly 123, and older.

Chrome not affected:

The bug is specific to Firefox.

Solutions:

  • Use a different browser (Chrome, etc.) or search engine (DuckDuckGo).

Advanced users can:

  • Change Firefox's UA in developer settings or with add-ons.

  • Request the desktop version of Google from Firefox settings (region-dependent).

Status:

  • Problem identified as critical and escalated.
  • Still unresolved at the time of reporting.

Additional notes:

  • Disabling Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection doesn't fix the issue.
  • Some users report google.co.in loading the desktop site instead of mobile.

Recently Amazon, I suppose their app, added a search item to my context menu, which is quite a nuisance. Other apps have as well, such as DeepL and Wikipedia, but I believe those have a valid use case without too much of a commercial interest. Is there a way to remove items from the context menu without removing the related app?

So I'm using mull on android and every time I switch tab and return, be it for a second, the webpage reloads. Is there a setting I can adjust here to stop this from happening?

Apparently I wasn't clear enough in my other post. When I focus on the URL bar on a search page with either CMD L or by clicking it, I want to be able to just copy the phrase "lemmy" instead of having to select the text from https://www.google.com/search?q=lemmy. If I type search queries with spaces in them, the spaces are replaced with +s in the URL so I can't easily copy them.

I updated my firefox from 119.0.1 to 121.0 two days ago, and have noticed a for my usage quite significant change:
When I have a page, say a search engine query or a gallery of links on a page, and I open one then go back, previously I got the cached version. Within reason of the cache size I could go back a few pages even days later and critically see them as they where, just like I would expect for a tab I have open.

I use this behavior to work through essentially todo lists, so now that the lists get reloaded every time I visit them, this combines with server side caching to make the list jump around quite annoyingly.
My expected behavior would be the cached back history being served when available, except when I manually hit F5.

Was this change intentional? Is there any way to get the old behavior back?

Edit:
It seems to be a bug and only happen on some profiles, potentially dependent on some metric related to heavy use, like number of open tabs and windows.
Edit:
It seems to be related to uBlock Origin.
Edit:
It is definitely an issue within ubo, I will add a link to the issue there when I create it.
Edit:
It seems to be caused by the "AdGuard Tracking Protection" filter list within ubo.
Edit: issues:
ubo filters: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/21841
AdguardFilters: https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardFilters/issues/170172
Edit:
It was fixed a few minutes ago, the changes should percolate through to ubo soon™. Thx Yuki2718.

I've been told about Mull and fennec, but what about:

(From what I understand)

  • Firefox Focus: blocks trackers and erases browsing history
  • Firefox Nightly: new updates every night
  • Firefox Klar: german version of focus
  • Iceraven Browser: 3rd party fork with more add ons

I love Firefox and I used it on and off for many years. Right now I am using Brave because I just prefer the look and feel of it. I want to move to Firefox again but I just can't stand the way the tabs look on Firefox. They are too big and ugly and it's not great on a laptop, etc. Once you have a few open then they are not readable anymore. What are some ways to change the look?

I often do searches with multiple search engines and extras with the same query but with site:reddit.com added at the end. Being able to press CMD L to focus the URL bar, and then CMD C with all the text selected would make things a lot faster. This was added months ago to Firefox but it looks like it was removed now.

Their text:

Hello, Happy New Year! I am excited to share some fantastic news to start 2024: we reached our goal of raising $3,300,000 USD in grassroots donations from the Mozilla community before the end of 2023!

Here’s how the Mozilla community came together in the final six weeks of the year:

An incredible 34,667 of us made a donation to reclaim the internet since Giving Tuesday, including 14,972 who made their first-ever gift to Mozilla; More than 3,000 of us donated our voices to Mozilla Common Voice, recording more than 90,000 clips to make voice recognition systems more accessible; And 1,181 of us started a monthly gift to sustain Mozilla’s non-profit work. Because of this support from the Mozilla community, we’ll be able to do even more of what Mozilla does best: holding irresponsible tech companies accountable, advocating for your privacy, and investing in the people, ideas, and organisations who will help reclaim the internet.

Thanks for everything you do for the internet.

@firefox should implement bangs. Most people I know don't know #bangs exist. #wishlist

The print preview is taking about 2 minutes to generate in Firefox, and for the last 15 seconds the entire Firefox window becomes unresponsive. I am only "printing" to a PDF to save, and I have no printers connected to my (modern) laptop.

When I tried on Chrome for comparison, it takes about 30 seconds (still a ridiculous amount of time) but without the freezing behavior.

I tried setting print.prefer_system_dialog to false (which does not generate a preview that I can see), but Firefox still takes just as long to pop up the system dialog and the window still freezes.

I only really care about fixing the problem with Firefox. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Info:

  • Mozilla Firefox 121.0
  • Google Chrome 120.0.6099.129
  • 11th gen Intel laptop on Arch Linux

Do you enjoy our new Internet #cookiepower? I find the whole cookies agreements thing useless. It would be ideal if @firefox could allow a "Accept All COokies" button in the settings and so it automatically answers this question for me. I don't care who has my cookies. I really don't. Honestly.

I found the flag to disable it, but I'm really curious why the decision was made in the first place. On Chrome and Firefox, l If you double click this example HTML5 : https://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_video.asp, it will go full screen. I've always wondered why sometimes click on a video would make it go fullscreen, it's laggy and annoying for me, even on high-end laptops. On My Mac, as well as in Windows and Fedora VMs.
