"TradCaths" are probably raging.
Hilarious how they either don't believe in or sometimes don't even know one of Catholicism's main tenants, Papal supremacy.
Technically that only applies to statements made ex cathedra, the pope can say whatever he wants on and Catholics can disagree with him, so long as he's not sitting on his special chair.
On one hand that sounds like hilarious cope, on the other hand it sounds exactly like the kind of arcane rules the Catholic Church would have.
ex cathedra literally means "out [from] the chair" but it's a figurative statement that just means "speaking as the holder of this position rather than as a private individual"
This phrase in Latin is still commonly used in Poland in exactly this meaning.
"official acts" by a president vs personal acts
Wait so a cathedral is just a church with a big chair for like official church statements?
Cathedrals are named for having such chairs, yes.
