Bionic eyes, cochlear implants and wireless spine interfaces are all tech that'd allow people to feel like they live in VR once we refine them. Idk if we have any kind of tech that helps people taste tho.

I know these are all still in development. But am I missing anything?

I think there might be a time when we have plastic organs that are better than the ones we're born with. Like, plastic skin, cartilage, and bones could come first, and eventually, we might have plastic hearts, stomachs, kidneys, and all that.

Sure, plastic and tech can break, but they don't get sick. If older people have printed hearts, does that mean they won't have to worry about heart disease? How would this change the aging process?

I'm just curious about when we can actually expect to have lab-grown organs like these. Do you think it will happen soon?

When I was a kid the Jetsons had a freaking Robot Rosie. She did exactly what we told her to do. What is fundamentally different between that and what we are currently dealing with?

Is DeepMind working on a long-term AI research plan similar to the Alberta Plan?

How does the Alberta Plan differ from other AI research agendas?

What are the main challenges and opportunities for the Alberta Plan?

What are the implications of the Alberta Plan for the future of AI and society?

In the future, any human will be able to spin up limitless realistic humanoid identities on social media, or perhaps the identities will exist independently online, and will follow earthly human accounts that they've been trained to be attracted to in terms of the specific content that is produced and posted. thanks for coming to my ted talk

The title says it all. I've been researching the philosophy of technology for my Phd in AI, and everything comes to the conclusion that the hope - the wanting - of technology to solve all of our human conditional problems echoes the same as religion, and even humanism. We are not the center of the universe, and placing technology into a psuedo-godlike state will only neglect the actuality of our situation. This is not to say technology is bad, not at all in fact, but that the faith we put behind our tools to right the wrongs we cause will only continue the trend we have seen since premodernity. These tools we create ought to be considered on the same level as us, as with the rest of nature and the universe. The subject and object does not hold the same primacy as the very mediation which evokes the two. Technology is a prime mediator, and instead of relying on it blindly, we should reevaluate our relationship to it, so that we may better our understanding of ourselves.

As Donna Harraway said, "I would rather be a cyborg than a goddess." Paradise is not something technology will deliver to us, but rather something we need to actively, and democratically, construct with technology.

I want you guys to imagine a hypothetical scenario where you have access to and control over an advanced Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), that has been created in a remote facility without anyone knowing about it ,it exceeds humans in all fields of intelligence but it is still only contained in a supercomputer, imagine that only you have control over it and the facility also has internet access ,for what purpose would you use the ASI for, what commands will you give to it?.

Society is currently FUCK YOU PAY ME! That is what it is. Our basic needs cannot be accessed unless FUCK YOU PAY ME!

WHEN (not if) AGI/the singularity/and eventually ASI happens, jobs will get lost, obviously... this is already happening and will transform society for good or ill.

Let's say we get to a place (insert date here) where technology is amazing, can do amazing things, where MANY PEOPLE do not work and unemployment is higher than it has ever been and we exist on a UBI or other income scheme...

What stops governments/corporations from being like:

You still dont get socialized medicine. Housing is still scarce/you gonna rent... FUCK YOU PAY ME... what stops manufactured scarcity from continuing as it largely does now?

Given the rise and rise of ai imagery and video and music and sound, doesn't it seem likely that someday soon, we won't have any way of knowing for certain if the celebrity or politician or terrorist we all know of exists with us in our physical reality?

As the market is tough now and most of the devs are well aware of the current ai tools at least, I'm interested to hear what you guys here, that are professional devs, looking to do?

Do you work as usual? Do you think of shifting towards management or entrepreneurship? Are you gaining knowledge in ai/ml? Maybe you are switching to science and research or you acquire manual skills? Or do you have enough backup money to cover in case the big unemployment turns real?

I am considering returning to university, to get a masters and maybe some uni based job. I'm just curious what your ideas are, since there seems to be quite a lot of people with IT background.

There were some similar posts before but I'm more into hearing personal decisions if someone is happy to share.

I'm not worried about access to wants, desires, newer/better video games/toys/hobbies etc.

I am interested in AI's potential to offer de-commodified needs or nearly zero-marginal-cost: housing, healthcare, access to clean water/food.

For example... I need healthcare. It's a need, not a desire. I live in the U.S. and am uninsured and living in desperate precarity. If I access healthcare, dental care etc. the bills will cause me to lose everything and I will become homeless. This is because healthcare is not treated in the same way roads are, libraries etc.

Will I be able to access healthcare in the next 5 years without incurring extreme financial loss?

Further, what happens to a society where EVEYRTHING except the air we breathe is highly highly commodified, and for many basic human needs are becoming unaffordable?

Do those invested in such a stratified and commodified world allow us to live in a fairer, more equitable world?
