EDIT: https://kbin.social/m/FindAKbin seems to be what I'm looking for. Everyone should subscribe there if you're looking for the same thing

With things really picking up around here I'd like a magazine I can go to to ask people about other magazines. Search isn't always useful, and sometimes you don't even know what you're looking for. Browsing other users talking about magazines they like would be a nice resource.

Just wondering...

503

As soon as I joined I feel like I have a limited perception of what is going on, so I'd like to keep myself more up to date. Are there any Discord communities for kbin or lemmy? Is there a general fediverse one? Would make things easier to understand.

504

If so, do you consistently report it and get the feeling that it gets dealt with? Of course there are instances dedicated solely to being human trash

505

Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument.

I just like hearing pros rant about about their very niche problems.

506

I'm new to Kbin, is there an official Android mobile app? If not is there a good alternative?

507

It is really useful on reddit but here I don't see anything around the left side to collapse so i have to keep scrolling.

508

I tried changing it but the site didn't allow me for some reason.

509

Whats a song (or more than one) that you like, or been listening to lately?

510

They’re both built on ActivityPub and look very similar, but Kbin is talked about like an alternative to Lemmy instead of an instance of it. Is it a fork? Why is it better or worse?

Something positive going on in your life? Share it here!

I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here.

But I think I'll peek in tomorrow to see what happens.

Howdy! Has anyone complied the kbin-mobile app?

Found the kbin-mobile GitHub, cloned the repo and tried to build the app with flutter but it keeps running into errors with the Google dependencies. I'm not at an expert at these things and idk why they didn't just provide an apk in the releases section.

Has anyone successfully built the apk who would be willing to share it?

Thanks!

Can we get a consensus for the nomenclature of kbin users like “Redditor”? How about “kbinaut”?

How do we pronounce Kbin?

Is it pronounced like 'Cabin' or rather 'KayBin'? I feel like a lot of us don't know.

I've seen keebinetters, but that feels like trying to say Massachusettsian instead of Bay Stater.

Kay-Binner seems like the most simple and inclusive, but that depends on the fact that you pronounce kbin Kay-bin

Maybe something representing the federated nature? Like Fedizen maybe?

517

What's reputation on kbin? How did mine get to -2? And what effect will this have on my account?

My parents had a flock of chickens and the rooster had clearly his favourite hen (who had the same color as him). He seemed to react every time he could hear her doing a strange cluck, as if his own "cluck cluck" meant "honey, i can hear you, are you in trouble ?".

As a former redditor I am glad to have found a new "home" and I hope I'm not intruding. Nevertheless, we are all a huge migration that is bound to change how kbin works and we're bound to piss off some pre-migration Keebinetters. The fact you guys were here before and not in reddit makes evident you don't want this to become a carbon copy of reddit. From the interface to the group dynamics, please lets us now...

What can we do NOT to ruin kbin for you?

520

I read a little bit how kbin works, fediverse and all of that, but I didn't find information where are the files?

Is each magazine hosted on admins machine? How that stuff works?

521

Lets make a thread to post our niches that we have found here. Big magazines are ok too.

I'll start: /m/mechanicalkeyboards, so glad it migrated here!

Edit: You can add a direct fediverse link (so that any users from any fediverse instance looking at this post can click on it) with the following two methods:

Click on the "link" button in the text editor, or manually write in the following format (all together):

[ /m/mechanicalkeyboards ] ( https://kbin.social/m/mechanicalkeyboards )

OR (all together):

@ mechanicalkeyboards @ kbin.social

Edit 2: magazine / community names are case-sensitive apparently, mind the uppercase letters!

Is anybody here that witnessed the original migration from Digg to Reddit? How did it feel? Does it feel the same right now?

Personally, I think Questionable Content, Kevin and Kell, and Dumbing of Age are great for this. They all have a ton of history, and Kevin and Kell is actually one of the longest running webcomics ever.

524

These were always the best AskReddit questions, fake or not, so let’s hear ‘em.

Aside from (formerly) Reddit and (now) kbin, what are some of your favorite go-to websites, whether for information, wasting time, etc?
