I don't know how to do it, but there is a way to lock your community to 'mod-only'. This stops posts being created which is probably for the best if you don't intend to be here at all to oversee anything. As I understand it, Lemmy is currently at huge risk of an influx of bot accounts / it's already happening. Tom has added email verification to register with our instance but anyone on the whole Fediverse can still come here and post / comment whatever they want. If things start getting posted to your community and you aren't here to deal with it, is Tom supposed to do it for you? Definitely best to lock it imo :)

UKcasual on lemmy.world has 2.33k subs. You'll see a different number depending on which instance you view it from. To see the true number, you need to view it at the source instance.
I don't always mind the smell depending on what they're smoking as I guess strains smell different but sometimes it's rank and when it's a few days in a row I start to feel a bit icky. My back is starting to improve slowly, thank you :)
In the end I made an account on both instances too, but mainly because they don't seem to be federating very well. When I view lemmy.world communities from my feddit account stuff is missing and vice versa. So I use my feddit account just for here and my lemmy.world account for all the other crap I wanna follow across the fediverse lol.
It's really nice to hear that you found an appreciation for the changing nature even if it isn't usually something that's on your radar. I wonder where along the canal route you are compared to me!? I kept it vague with Cherwell District because you know, this is the internet. Lol.
Agree. What use is it to make a community and then leave with no intention of moderating it and leaving open to who knows what. Potentially creating a lot of strife for Tom if something goes wrong. You're only as strong as your weakest link, and all that. It's 100% the mindset of "I don't actually care about this community that I've chosen to make but I didn't want anybody else to make it. If you're lucky I'll come back one day". Eye roll.
In that case at least it wasn't glass! Would have turned your kitchen into a crime scene.
Did you break it by bashing it on the worktop to try and get the last dregs of sauce out? Because that's what I did with a squeezy bottle of Hellmann's.
I'm not sure. Sometimes, even if you post a comment without specifically selecting English beforehand, Lemmy autodetects it and puts English. To be honest with you I haven't managed to get my head around it. The language settings all seem very convoluted to me.
I definitely advocate for moving somewhere else if you’re in a position to. We spend so much of our lives at work just to be able to exist and one day look back and think…wow I spent so long being stressed / unhappy. I know not everyone has the luxury of being able to leave a job if they aren’t happy - been there myself, but if you can, go for it.
Aye, you gotta roll with the punches, right? Yeah I felt it was a shame that UKcasual was already made on lemmy.world rather than feddit.uk, so things are quite spread out / there's crossover. That's the nature of the Fediverse though! As I understand it from a comment I saw a while ago UKcasual already had 1k subscribers quite quickly so they didn't want to lose that by deleting the community to move it here.
As far as I know, it's a visual glitch and you are actually subscribed. Posts made to these communities should still be showing up in your main feed when you select 'subscribed' - At least that was the case for me with my pending ones.
