The short version is, that I’m not keen on a bot that just replicates content from reddit (the fediverse has a long history with those, and lots of people have lots of very strong opinions, which overshadow the problem the bot is ostensibly trying to solve).

However, any and all of those groups are welcome here officially or unofficially. It may involve manually posting and pinning a lot of the content and resources from the original subs, but as long as that is done with consent, we’re happy for it to be here.

Honestly, if you want them here, and you have the support of the existing reddit mods, I would suggest creating the groups here and getting them going. You can always add other moderators, and even hand the groups over to someone else if you want to step away.

I know tesseract (an alternative front end) does. And I know that I’ve used mobile apps with that functionality before, but honestly, I don’t remember which ones had the feature and which ones didn’t, because I never used the feature, and these days, I even use tesseract on my phone.

There are 3rd party apps and alternative Web front ends with that ability

I haven't banned a single person over 196 changes. I don't moderate 196 and I haven't banned anyone from 196 (except as a side effect of banning them from the whole instance).

I don't know what you think happened, but community or instance banning folk for community specific events is not something I do.

You're not going to end the oligarchy on a VC funded social media platform.

Gotosocial has a setting in development that is designed to baffle bots that don't respect robots.txt. FediDB didn't know about that feature and thought gotosocial was trying to inflate their stats.

In the arguments that went back and forth between the devs of the apps involved, it turns out that FediDB was ignoring robots.txt. ie, it was badly behaved

Big uptick for us at bhzon recently, but a degree of magnitude less than this

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 days ago

Ok, this isn't really blahaj related and I think it has run its course.

You’re free to argue for the normalising of slurs people level against you. I won’t stand in your way. But again, you don’t get to decide that slurs used against other people should be normalised, when the impact of those slurs isn’t felt by you.

Unless you’re trans, that isn’t your call to make. You don’t get to decide that it’s ok for people other than yourself to be exposed to slurs. Stay in your own lane.

Thanks to our amazing @supakaity, we are now running lemmy 0.19.8!

We now also have a Tesseract front end that you can use to access blahaj lemmy at https://tes.lemmy.blahaj.zone/. Just login with your regular lemmy login

The current mods are long term inactive. I'm looking for one or two new mods to take over the community. Bonus points if you have a blåhaj account.

For those who don't want to follow the existing 196 community move, some community members have made an alternative community on blahaj.zone

I am not directly involved in the new community, but I'm happy to share it for those looking for a blahaj based alternative.

I'm seeing weird results with my heart rate strap. My ground contact time is really low, but my vertical oscillation is really high! One indicates good form, the other indicates bad form. My subjective experience is that my vertical oscillation is low, but my garmin disagrees.

And I think the reason why is the movement of my breasts. I think they're moving the sensor itself, and confusing its measurements.

Is that actually a thing? I've tried to find research or people talking about it, but all I can find is discussion on the impact of breasts on actual running performance, rather than on the measurement of it.

Neopronouns are not trolling (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/main@lemmy.blahaj.zone

I've been waiting until after Christmas day to make this post, but some of our communities recently have had a lot of noise and upset over someone that uses neopronouns that most people are unfamiliar with.

So I want to make this clear. A persons pronouns are to be respected. This is true when the user is using neopronouns that you're unfamiliar with. It's true even if you think someone is trolling. Pronouns are not rewards for good behaviour. They aren't only to be respected when you like the person you're interacting with, or if their pronouns "make sense" to you. Trolls, spammers, twitter users, it doesn't matter who they are, your options are to respect their pronouns, or to not engage with them.

I really want to re-iterate the importance of this. Gender diverse folk are undermined, invalidated and questioned at every step of our lives. As a community, we need to be working to undo that, not creating more of it, and that means there is no space for treating pronouns (including neopronouns) as a reward for good behaviour.

This isn't a free reign for trolls and spammers. The rules still apply. Trolling, spamming, etc will continue to be dealt with, but it's not an excuse to act as if respecting someones pronouns is optional.

I've got an image noise reduction app that I simply can't get working under linux, and that I can't find an equivalent tool for under linux.

I've tried VMs and wine and none of them work. My web searches haven't encountered anyone that can make it work either.

So, I'm at the point where I may need to boot in to windows to do my noise reduction. However, I would really love to be able to access my existing linux install via a VM or the like when I do so, so that I can access my daily driver software (which is all linux) whilst I'm in windows.

Is such a thing possible?

I rode the new bike out off road, through grass tussocks and all sorts of bumps to get this viewpoint!
