Possibly. That said, I'm going to actively use Lemmy and try to get used to it and find new communities.
Reddit could only succeed because of their user base...which they are actively giving the finger to...

Yes but I think more from a familiarity standpoint (10 year old account). I had my routine of subreddits to visit. I also liked the centralization on content.
This new federation of sites is going to take a bit of time for me to figure out. I used the reddit app and was ok with it. What actually pissed me off the most was the callousness of the admins. Fuck that.
Search is definitely going to be the crux of the issue for the average user.
If they want to attract and retain the reddit users that aren't especially tech savvy (I totally admit that I am one of those people).
