I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don't look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I'd go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

I don't browse it (I have a redirector rule that links me right out of Reddit), but if I need to access it for something, I just tack on old. as a bypass.

[–] wakamo@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Sometimes when I need an answer I use wayback machine to read reddit. Don't want to give reddit my engagement and have their cookies in my browser.

[–] Zippity@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I still look at a few specific subreddits when they pop-up in a search result.

[–] Madusch@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Until yesterday, Joey for Reddit still worked, but since today it doesn't anymore. I miss r/BestOfRedditorUpdates, so I'll probably use it just for that sub.

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I don't scroll through reddit anymore but will use it if a friend shares a link or when looking for something. It was hard the first few days as I found myself opening Sync only to be greeted by the goodbye message. Safe to say I was quite addicted to doom scrolling but happy to have stopped.

Been using Jerboa for 2 weeks now and have not doom scrolled yet, feels good

I deleted my account 1st July. I won't lie there is still a couple of subreddits I'll check out through old.reddit, but mostly due to a recent crush on John Oliver.

[–] lunaticneko@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I go there just to read about the state of affairs regarding Reddit itself.

[–] Naia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

I I still use it on desktop since I can still use the old design and I run several layers of adblock.

On mobile I basically never use it now unless a search result forces me to it. Lemmy needs work, but I've gotten it to a usable state in mobile.

I really home Baconreader makes a lemmy version because that was the only way I used reddit mobile.

[–] reksas@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Not really, I try to avoid it even when something i'm looking for is there, though sometimes I just cant be bothered to look elsewhere. I hope someone gathers all the useful information from there into archive somewhere, in case something happens to it.

I deleted my account around the start of the original blackout, and from then only really checked r/ModCoord & r/Save3rdPartyApps. These days I only really briefly pop into r/ModCoord to check for any updates on the situation.

[–] argv_minus_one@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

No. I've checked my inbox and profile page several times, but that's it. Reddit is dead to me.

[–] NotSpez@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

If I do a web search I'll still go to reddit if it as a useful thread but I don't actively go on it.

[–] inspxtr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, though to a much lesser extent than I used to. Sometimes it’s just through web searches that lead to Reddit, though I use Libreddit front-end for that.

And other times, it’s specific subreddits about TV shows. The level and frequency of discussion on Lemmy sadly is not there yet for popular shows, and nonexistent for niche shows.

Almost never.

Sometimes when I need to troubleshoot or am looking for specific information, then I will add reddit. It still shines there.

But don't have a login anymore and I don't visit daily. Lemmy has become my main now.

no. I mostly used Reddit from mobile, and since Apollo went down, I just used it once from my laptop to find a link. Other than that, 100% lemmy using Wefwef.

[–] SighBapanada@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

No. I've completely switched to lemmy and couldn't be happier. I'm actually surprised by how much I don't miss reddit, I thought it would be tougher to break out

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

nope but my account is not deleted. Have not had time to follow up on my data request. mostly because of kbin :)

[–] rjh@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

I went from several hours a day to zero after the blackout, morally I just don't want to support them anymore. I still add 'reddit' to google searches sometimes and look at those, but no more mindless scrolling of the front page.

[–] koreth@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, but much less than I used to. When I don’t have a particular goal in mind and just want to doomscroll a bit, I find myself checking Lemmy first, and only if I run out of things to read, which I usually don’t, do I move on to Reddit.

There are still some niche communities that are active on Reddit and not here. So I do still go over there on purpose for those.

[–] Jakdracula@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nope. Left as soon as Apollo ended.
Only went back to transfer all my subscriptions using the Voyager tool - found under settings “migrate subreddits”. On June 29 I used a different tool to delete all my posts on Reddit. I’m leaving my empty account there as a form of protest.

[–] XbSuper@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Nope. Without RIF it's painful to look at.

[–] delirium@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Some of the specific communities are there but not here or barely alive here (like my phone's brand) so I'm visiting them from PC. Spez gets no moni because I'm always using unblock there though

[–] J12@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Hadn’t been in 3 days besides accidentally opening Apollo. I’m going to stop by one of these days and edit and delete my comments and posts.

[–] malloc@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Only in read only mode.

Sometimes I use Reddit to search up nonfiction book recommendations on r/books with searx.be (it automatically fetches you results on the old reddit website) because to be honest, it's pretty much one of the few places where I can find nonfiction recommendation for niche topics or just nonfiction readers in general (that isn't just about self-help books). Not only that, the users generally give a synopsis so it's easier to find what book you'd be interested in. But since Reddit made porn less accessible, my reddit usage dropped significantly.

[–] beepnoise@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Nah, deleted that shit as soon as they announced the API.

I saw the writing on the wall.

[–] jackpot@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago
[–] DarkGamer@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I will occasionally browse because Relay still works, but I stopped contributing content.

[–] Choco1ateCh1p@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Occasionally, after seeing something in the news regarding Reddit, I will use libreddit.kavin.rocks to see if that news, or any other negative press is anywhere on r/all.

Most recently was about them removing rewards and coins, and prior to that was code in the app that appears to allude to a cash for karma reward system.

[–] 30isthenew29@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I don’t but if I have a question I’ll google and add site:reddit.com for sure…

[–] Itsgodzilla@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Nope, I haven't been there even once since switching over to Lemmy

[–] ArcheTelos@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I still hang out mostly on Reddit. As much as the site’s gone downhill, I’m mostly active on the fandom-specific subs, which don’t have nearly as much of a presence on Lemmy. The general meme communities have been flourishing, but the fandom communities are basically ghost towns, and even those that see a bare minimum of activity are far from enough to pop up in my feed. Right now, /r/yugioh has ten times as many online users as /c/yugioh has subscribers period - and that’s one of the more active niche communities I follow! I’ll still be keeping an eye on Lemmy and post to both sites when I can, but we’ve got a lot more growing to do before I’m ready to finally ditch Reddit.

Also, Reddit has the hentai. The specific fandom subs at least have small barely-active communities here but their NSFW counterparts are totally nonexistent.

I used to spend hours everyday there. Now I only visit for a few minutes a week to check up on a game.

But I'll never touch the official app and I'll never come back, even if they backtracked the API decision, because f u/spez

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Use reddit? I still have my work account for when Google sends me there.

Visit Reddit? No.

[–] NightOwl@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Only rss of gamedeals and buildapcsales. Those are functionally useful subs. Good deal alerts.

Have no interest in anything else like random discussions in hobbies or games or television or shows or sports which are stuff that are easy to quit. Even /r/Heat family I have left behind despite basically no activity here. Those are more entertainment and don't offer utility. That includes niche subs I enjoyed like gunpla or dedicated tv show or game subs. It just falls into category of entertainment that isn't so useful I need it.

I knew it essentially coming to a close when I didn't have Reddit Enhancement Suite installed anymore.
