Right now, I’m playing the early access version of Baldurs Gate 3. I’m getting ready to put it down (frustrated: BG3 has the potential to be good, but without controller support, I’m getting really frustrated with the UI. ) and switch to Yakuza Like a Dragon.

What are you playing now and what are you looking forward to playing next?

HIya! I jump around a lot but today I started playing Warhammer 40K Space Marine again in preparation for the release of the sequel. Before that I'm working through Daemon x Machina to scratch the Armored Core itch I have waiting for AC6.

Playing Cyberpunk and Ace Combat.

As a toddler+newborn dad I flat out need the option of playing on TV or in bed, and instantly flipping on or off.

I honestly never dreamed of something like this when I grew up gaming on Windows 95+. Can't wait 'til I can game with my sons.

Dark Souls 1 for the first time! Runs beautifully. Gonna do 2 next.

[–] _MoveSwiftly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I have one, but borrowed it to my neighbor to try it out and see if he wants to purchase one. :)

I don't play on it often honestly, but I mainly use it if I'm going to bed and don't want to sleep, flying, visiting in laws, or want to play controller games. It's console lite for me.

I played Brotato on it for way too many hours.

99% of my Deck gameplay has been Harvest Moon Animal Parade (Wii game) since I got it last fall. Lmao. But I recently got a little chill game called Lemon Cake on sale so I’ve been messing with that. I just want calm games these days, preferably ones I can pick up and put down easily.

I have been playing a lot of BotW and DRG on it. Playing BotW on it is amazing, for DRG or mainly any shooter on it there is the problem of me not being used to aim with the gyro properly yet.

I'm more curious how many are running SteamOS vs Windows to get an idea of how good proton support for titles is.

Loving my steam deck but sadly don’t get a lot of time to play even on something so portable. I’ve been fooling with Cozy Grove lately, though!

[–] Declared0978@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

HiFi rush and Dinkum (coop w/ the fam).

Currently playing Death Stranding in between two sessions of Tears of the Kingdom on my Switch !

[–] mtizim@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Over the year I've finished Outer Wilds, Hades, PikuNiku, the second Ori game, and have been slowly getting through Elden Ring. Next is probably Tunic, but idk if it's worth my time after playing through the first 2 hours.

Nowadays I can't use any other controller than the deck, so I sometimes link it with the pc just for that - I just can't live without the gyro and the back buttons

I pre-ordered the Deck way back on day 1 with the expectation that it would be a good emulation handheld, non-demanding indies, and Civ VI device, and that any modern gaming it ends up doing besides that would be gravy.

Proton turned out to be far more compatible than I ever imagined.

Still, I mostly do emulation, indies, and low-graphic strategy games, because anything with serious visuals, I don't want to play on handheld. But it is great to be able to continue whatever strategy or RPG savegame I've got going when I travel.

Recently set up EmuDeck, so the real question is what am I not playing? Jokes aside, currently taking a break from the Deck for D4 (wanted better graphics and smoother framerate so I went with PS5). Will probably grab it on PC when there's a sale just to be able to play it on the go... well, wherever wifi is available.

Other than that it's been mostly "Fuck Around With Tweaking the OS and Settings to Get Games Just Right and Then Never Actually Play Them" Simulator. Windows 11 runs surprisingly smooth off of just a MicroSD card.

[–] StrayRose@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

Currently playing some No Man's Sky. It runs better than I was expecting.

I was playing Showgunners and was really enjoying it but it crashes a lot on the deck. I'm hoping an update fixes it.

[–] LemmyAtem@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

I've been playing a lot of Othercide lately. Even though it says unsupported it actually runs really well! You just need to use the proton hotfix not default. I also played through Symphony of War recently and it's terrific. Anyone looking for something that you can dump 40+ hours into a single playthrough while also being EXTREMELY battery friendly, check it out!

ohai, it me! Mostly what I'm doing with the deck is going back through my old library. My silly self even bought new vegas about a week before epic started to give it away (still worth it, best fallout game which puts it well up in the running for best RPG).

But the game I'm really excited about on the deck, the one I can't put down, is an indie hockey roguelike called tape to tape. I grew up on games like NHL 94 for the sega genesis, and this one plays like those old games, but it also has a generational roguelike element to it. You play a series of short hockey games against different teams, each with their own special talents. When you win, you win in-game currency with which you can upgrade your center, unlock different wingers to play with, unlock different talents that you can give to your players or even whole team talents. It's in early access on steam right now, plays perfectly on the deck right out of the box, has an active community where players and devs interact on discord and it's just really, really fun. Strong recommend if you played arcade-y hockey games as a kid.

I got it in September last year. While I am alternating between Death Stranding and Wolfenstein: the new order, I have to say that this fantastic machine has allowed me to play and finish 18 games since September, which is unbelievable for a person with a job and a family with a kid...

Got my steam deck about August last year, I've been using it almost exclusively for gaming this year. At the beginning of the year I used my gaming PC to play some Battlefield 2042 but other than that its been Steam Deck only.

Blasphemous im working on beating right now before the 2nd one comes out. Also playing a bit of Ride 4 before 5 comes out. Once i am ready to loop back to other games on my list to beat I'll also be playing Nier Automata. Another I've found of interest recently just due to its simple gameplay and coop capability is Death Road to Canada.

[–] Jomn@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm currently playing Octopath Traveller 2 and it's running great ! It's also a very fun game. The next game on my list is Outer Wilds.

I love my Steam Deck and use it for smaller indie titles I can play for a short time through the week.
At the moment I play Flood of Light, which works pretty well despite being a game relying heavily on mouse controls.
And as a second: Super Panda Adventure. A surprisingly fun metroidvania.
Casette Beasts is next, already played about an hour, but I want to finish the others first.

Yes, I am playing Dredge right now. I am also playing papers please, which is obviously easier with mouse but it works good enough. I am also playing the first Ori game and Tetris sometimes. I played tails of iron too which is great fun.

Warhammer Boltgun, Forza Horizon 4 & Fallout 76.

Boltgun is incredible, best new game I’ve bought this year.

Fallout 76 (don’t judge) is great just to burn some time doing events with randoms and joining public teams.

I’ve really gotten into Forza Horizon 4 again recently and am also playing through that on the Deck.

I’ve added a 1tb SSD to mine so it’s running Windows and Linux meaning I’m pretty much free to play my whole library. Love the thing.

There are dozens of us! I’ve just been happy to get through my Steam backlog since my gaming PC died. I recently played Horizon ZD and am about to start Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon

[–] zaphod@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I went from a Hades binge which ended when I entered the mid-to-late game grind phase interspersed with bouts of BoI (finally picked up Repetence) and found myself wondering what to do now.

So I figured, hey, maybe it's about time I finally went back and finished Bastion.

Then all of a sudden Street Fighter 6 comes out (which plays incredibly well on the deck) and a new No Man's Sky expedition launches, and now I don't know what to do!

I've had my Steam Deck since April of last year. I love it. I love the community that has formed supporting it. The last game I beat on it was Midnight Suns. Since I got my reservation for it in July 2021. I went from about 4 games on Steam. To over 140 games.

It's probably my primary console whenever possible.

My recent obsession has been getting heavily modded Bethesda games running on the deck. Currently playing a version of Oblivion that has only ever been seen by me. I couldn't even get Oblivion running with 10 mods a decade ago but with the newer tools it's running on linux with almost 200. It's been fun.

I've been loving Hades, but I'm currently fighting to get done emulation working - although I didn't spend much time and I at least know, where I fucked up...

Avid Steam Decker here, mostly playing Boltgun and the System Shock Remake (which also inspired me to go back to the original System Shock in parallel to see what's changed)

[–] Jinxyface@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

My Steam Deck is mostly an indie/retro machine that I play while I'm vegging out in bed/on the couch at the end of the day. Lots of PS1 games and whatnot

[–] matt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Been mainly using it to get through the Trails series before Trails from Reverie releases in July - currently on Trails of Cold Steel 4, but it's a hard one to get through.

Other than that, been emulating Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and playing with friends.

Slay the Spire, American Truck Simulator, Bloons TD6, Deep Rock Galactic were games I had a good experience with.

I had a USBC Dongle and was also able to play games like TMNT Shredders Revenge, Out of Space, Moving Out, Plate Up and Overcooked with other people very easily by bringing it with me and extra controllers.

Recently I was playing Guild Wars 1 and Doom (1996) on it.

Feels great for Doom.

As for Guild Wars 1, it was very much playable. The only frustrations were the login and double clicking in the inventory. Someone had already done a community layout which worked pretty nicely. Note though that I was playing just by myself, so I can't comment on while in a party with other players.
