That's fantastic. Keep up the good work!

[–] hariette@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

Thank you, just doing my part to serve the community!

[–] CodingAndCoffee@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This kind of stuff is exactly what the fediverse needs. Great work!

[–] hariette@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

100%! So much growth left in the fediverse. And I can’t wait for more competition on the app space :D

iOS dev, making a cross platform app, inspired by how apollo was?! Oof, as an Android user, i cant wait! πŸ‘

[–] hariette@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Budgeting to get an Android device so I can test it myself too ;)

Also, Apollo was just iconic. If I can built half of that, we’ll be rocking it!

[–] vektor@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Which Android device are you looking at? I've always wondered how devs develop for Android since there's so many different kinds of devices that run Android with different capabilities. With iPhones, I'm (hopefully correctly) assuming that it's a little easier since there's only so many versions to support.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Yep, much easier on iOS. For Android I'll prob pick a Pixel.

This is great! I miss features from apps on Kbin, like saving posts, collapsing comments, etc. Signed up.

Wanted to add - Joey for Reddit was my go-to on Android when I left iOS/Apollo. Might be good inspiration, as well; I actually felt that Joey handled somethings much better than Apollo did.

[–] virgil31@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Joey for Reddit is/was the ULTIMATE client if you desire customization of the experience.
Man...I spent days on those font size and elements to be show/hide on the cards/threads. But it was in the end MY PERFECT experience

[–] hariette@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Hadn't heard of it. But taking a look!

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd rather see Relay or Infinity inspired stuff but I guess it's a first step for this type of field.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Noted. I'll take a look at those and see what I can pull from them too.

It'd be nice to have a landing page like what Apollo has. One where you can favorite Magazines and the like.

[–] Grimlo9ic@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Signed up! I've been using a Firefox shortcut on my Android phone for the past couple of days, but an app would make things much easier and more accessible.

[–] LennethAegis@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I'm happy to see kbin apps start popping up so fast. Signed up for this beta.

Will this be open source?

[–] fl4shback@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Following this with great interest! Thanks for your hard work :)
Signed up!

[–] lixus98@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Wow! that's amazing, looks really good already!

[–] khelmr@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like it! Signed up for the beta. Do you plan on open sourcing it at some point?

[–] hariette@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I’ll consider once the codebase reaches a satisfactory point. Would want to write some contribution guides and whatnot.

[–] meisme@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How's it pulling data? There is currently no kbin API (previous one was removed)

[–] hariette@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I posted elsewhere in thread. But I’m hosting my own API service for it. I can write about it after I get the app out.

It’s a stopgap solution in the meantime.

[–] Pankakke@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Looks great! Signed up :)

[–] albinanigans@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

We're watching your career with great interest!

[–] MrSebSin@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

This is awesome, thank you for working on this! Signed up and ready to be a tester.

[–] skellener@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Sweet! That’s awesome! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Maybe a name like Aurora or Nova could work. Like it is still space / celestial themed but both symbolize β€œnew” (aurora - new morning after nighttime, nova, explosion of light / pent up energy), and can work as a spiritual successor paying homage to Apollo. Great idea btw I just signed up.

[–] mightysashiman@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Wouldn't recommend using "Aurora". It's already the main alternative to the official google play store, and it's getting hunted down by Google. You wouldn't this nice new app to get stuck into this unrelated mess.

[–] Bakoda@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

To add to this, Nova is a very popular Android launcher as well.

[–] human_probably@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

That’s fair! I was giving examples but you’re right this and what another user mentioned about Nova make them imperfect choices. I like the idea of paying homage to Apollo somehow.

[–] JM@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

What about something like Komet? Then it would still be space themed, but have the K from kbin as well.

[–] DodgeForthrast@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You absolute legend. Make it paid and I’ll pay for it. This is how we win.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Awww thanks. My aim is to keep it free (plus ad free!). Just wanna help the fediverse become more accessible :)

If I do charge for something it would be for unique features that go above and beyond.

[–] KnittingTrekker@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am definitely interested, but I have a question: if I entered the beta testing, what would be my responsibilities? I ask before I have never beta tested anything...

[–] hariette@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Like using an app but you can't hate on it if anything is broken lol. Instead you have to submit feedback/issues so they can be addressed. But also, could just be new ideas in the form of feature requests.

I'll prob setup a Discord and an issue tracker on github.

Can't wait to see this, it should make it easier for people to join that would have ended up using the reddit app instead.

[–] watchdog@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kbinauts to the moon! Signing up now!

[–] vektor@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Kbinauts is a great name for kbin users!

[–] Ataraxia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I enjoy a beta test. Signed up.

[–] AnonymousLlama@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Great work, keen to see how this progresses.

[–] LollerCorleone@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

This is wonderful! Looking forward to seeing how the app shapes up. Have signed up for the beta test :)
