I felt like s2 was just a huge fan service, and not only because of the last episode. Then the end was just too open.

I watched season 1 of this when it came out because I loved the book.
It’s been a while but I would have sworn that season 1 covered the whole story from the book.
Are seasons 2+3 both original/new content?
Apparently Gaiman and Pratchett had some ideas for a follow-up story, which Gaiman has fleshed out, teaming up with British comedy writer John Finniemore on the writing
That’s pretty cool, I guess I need to put season 2 on my ever growing list of things to watch.
I thought this was a picture of Ned Nederlander tbh
unpopular opinion: not a fan of anything written by this guy that i've seen on telly, ever. just doesn't excite or turn me on in any way, and just all seems to pedestrian and painfully uninteresting. all of it.
It’s okay, you’re allowed to dislike something. Personally I don’t love his books, which is kind of sad since obviously people love them. I always figured Pratchett’s voice in Good Omens was the part I liked, since I like his other books but not Gaiman’s. Oh well.
Recommendations for Pratchett books as a starting point?
I'd just read the Discworld books in publication order as you get to see him world-building as he goes. After a bit you might start picking out specific books to follow the story of certain characters or settings but, initially, do it like we did back in the day - it's a beautiful journey.
This probably is be the show for you then. :)
