Looking for a decent simple multiplayer FPS. I was having fun with Black Ops 2 via Plutonium, but got banned due to every Steam Deck having the same HWID :(

Looking for something where I can just pick it up for 30-60 minutes and run around and shoot people. Don't want a ton of complicated mechanics, p2w, seasons passes, loot boxes or a requirement to dedicate half my life to the game. Does this exist?

Counter strike works well on the deck.

Insurgency sandstorm works well on the deck. Needs to be plugged in as it goes through battery fast.

Battlebit Remastered is the latest that works well. Remap some buttons and it’s great.

I use gyro aiming on all of these (turns on with using L2 for aiming.)

Was playing around with CS this morning. Its fun and the sort of thing I'm looking for, but holy hell, I did not realise how much I rely on aim assist. Gonna have to get used to using gyro and play around with sensitivity settings.

Yeah the deck takes practice to get semi decent in fps. I’ve been trying to research if it’s possible to counter recoil movements in game with the deck controls. Nothing yet but maybe someone will figure a work around.

just gotta understand if u do get battlebit, itll only work until the next major patch when they implement faceit anti cheat

[–] MrDude@lemmy.fmhy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

ahem might I recommend the popular class based fps TF2?

Try out Battlebit. It’s pretty much the best shooter you can get at the moment and it only costs 15 bucks. I don’t quite know how it runs on a steam deck, should be running fine though.

The biggest downside is they plan to move to an anticheat that won't work on Linux. It's EAC now but will be moving to faceit.

Apparently they may keep some EAC official servers. I want to give this game a go but may see how the situation pans out.

Seconding BattleBit. I'm having a fucking blast

I'd really love something low fidelity, kinda like Battlefield Heroes was. BattleBit seems that way, but their anticheat switcheroo will leave Linux out.

Titanfall (2) is the obvious choice I believe.

[–] JoshTheSquid@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Last time I checked there were no MP games at all (Titanfall 2). Maybe it's region specific? I'm in the EU. I was so sad :(

I'm not surprised, it's probably died down quite a lot :/

If you're not necessarily looking for PvP, Deep Rock Galactic is an awesome 4-player coop shooter.

ROCK AND STONE

Another vote for Deep Rock Galactic, a great little co-op shooter. And if you don't need PvP, there's always Borderlands.

CS:GO is free to play and about to get a big update/overhaul into CS2. It's a valve game so it's bound to work great on steam deck

[–] SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've been considering CSGO but its always kinda intimidated me. Is it suitable for semi-casual play with handheld controls?

[–] CrazyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd say it depends entirely on your mindset. I've been enjoying playing it casually. There's both a ranked and unranked mode, but even in the ranked mode on lower ranks it's pretty fun to just mess about. It does require you not to focus on chasing rank

[–] SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks, that's good to know. I don't mind being low-ranked as long as the matching is alright, I just don't want to constantly get wrecked by people with 1000+ hours in it.
