The Joe Biden administration will work with Congress on possible sanctions against the International Criminal Court after its prosecutor announced it was seeking arrest warrants for senior Israeli and Hamas officials, US secretary of state Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.

[…]

Blinken’s openness to bipartisan co-operation over the ICC is a sign of the level of anger in Washington over its request for arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant.

[…]

The sanctions could be similar to those imposed by the Trump administration on the ICC’s then chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and the court’s head of jurisdiction Phakiso Mochochoko for their investigation into alleged US war crimes in Afghanistan. The sanctions froze their American assets and banned their travel to the US. The Biden administration has not yet indicated what kind of sanctions it would support.

[…]

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham praised Schumer’s response to the ICC warrant application and urged him “to follow strong words with strong deeds”.

“It is imperative that the Senate, in a bipartisan way, comes up with crippling sanctions against the ICC — not only to support Israel but to deter any future action against American personnel,” Graham said.

In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Netanyahu said his response to the ICC’s announcement was “no different from what President Biden said, this is outrageous and many people across the political spectrum in the United States . . . have called it exactly that”.

“It’s a rogue prosecutor who’s out to demonise the one and only Jewish state,” he added.

Spending political capital we don't have on a foreign country that's milking us...

Because otherwise Netanyahu is going to intervene in the US election however he can get away with. But he's going to do it regardless, so why kowtow?

Which is it, American man? Is the separation of church and state the ultimate ideal, or is it that theocratic states are sacrosanct?

Separation of church and state is just a fairy tale we use in the US to indoctrinate our children into believing we're a good nation. Just like the right to assemble, the right to a fair trial, the abolishment of slavery, and that we're a functioning democracy.

Also, that claim is hilarious, because the ICC prosecutor was a very strong supporter of Israel and an arguable Zionist prior to this. It's actually why some are concerned he's going to purposefully mess up this whole thing.

Is the "he" here not Netanyahu? If so, you can be certain he does not care about separation of church and state.

That's a strange response when they claim they don't recognize the court.

Either sign on to the agreement and file a motion in opposition, or refuse to recognize the court and ignore it, like a responsible adult.

They are acting like a baby having a temper tantrum. Grow up.

That is the only way the rich and powerful know how to act. Because ultimately, might makes right under capitalism.

The US government has never been supportive of the ICC.

And has always been a strong supporter of Israel no matter what they are doing.

Except when the ICC announced Putin as a violator. Biden and Blinken were very happy and supportive of the ICC when that happened. The two of them even said at the time that the ICC has the international rule of law on its side and all signatories should follow its arrest requirements.

Fuck Biden.

Fuck Blicken.

I hope you both suffer like the Palestinians are suffering.

~~Arguably, Biden has...~~

Ehh, I don't really agree with my own statement. Yes, Biden has suffered loss more than most of us. It's not on the scale of what Israel is doing to Palestine though.

Yes, Democrats, let’s make certain we do literally everything possible to hand Trump another win and avoid all accountability for being the crooked piece of shit he is — all for Israel.

Wow.

Maybe one day Democratic leadership will understand that it’s really not a good idea to piss off their voter base — since voters, even Democrats, will vote against their party candidate just to spite them and damn the consequences.

I'll hold weapon shipments because I think Israel is bombarding civilians, but I will not stand for people accusing them of war crimes.

Is it just me or would it be way, waaay easier to just throw them under the bus completely? Biden could end the protests, avoid this absolutely ridiculous balancing act, and, if an all out war breaks out after Israel loses his political support, the US could still sell them weapons.

I'm not saying this is the best course of action, but what he does seems kinda irrational. Feels like it's nothing but hurting his chances in the election.

Sounds like in an attempt to rid the United States from accountability as coconspirator to the genocide of Palestinians, they are also setting themselves up to have no voice on the international stage.

Why should the world look up to the opinion of genocidal tyrants?

[–] restingboredface@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago

Biden has come a long way from the good old days of "Diamond Joe". I'm so disappointed in him for how he's handling this.

What the fuck is it with people thinking that because israel is a jewish state, that every single bad thing they do should be excused because its jewish? Its so fucking exhausting!

Stop mass murdering innocent people. Asking that is not anti semitic.

Also, nethanyahu is not israel. He is in charge and is doing horrible things. Calling the cunt out on that is not "hating a jewish state". Fuck me biden is daft...
