MODERATORS

With its general election just a week away, fears are mounting that the hard-right Vox party could form part of the national government. The win would embolden far-right parties that have been thriving across Europe. The UK cannot afford to be complacent about the rise of the protectionist far-right that's taking shape all around us.

Yeah, they like being moderate-right, but the far right and the UK have a long and storied history going back many centuries.

I think it's dangerous to only have the national view on this, as the article suggests. This is not an isolated phenomenon: Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, probably soon France, Sweden, Hungary and Poland for ages.... And globally, with the likes of Modi in India. Very bad times are coming again

True. I was mainly responding to the headline, rather than the broader article. Overall, I take solace in the fact that authoritarianism still functions very ineptly in any kind of long term goal. Good at short term chaos, but frankly too sluggish to handle the rapidly changing times of the modern world, by it's very nature.

Putin's invasion has drawn a very large highlighter over this point. While they certainly have counterplay, and we should fully expect them to try to spin it, this is a fantastic piece of ammo that has fallen into our lap.
