"cosmic horror... is a subgenre of horror fiction and weird fiction that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible more than gore or other elements of shock... themes of cosmic dread, forbidden and dangerous knowledge, madness, non-human influences on humanity, religion and superstition, fate and inevitability, and the risks associated with scientific discoveries... the sense that ordinary life is a thin shell over a reality that is so alien and abstract in comparison that merely contemplating it would damage the sanity of the ordinary person, insignificance and powerlessness at the cosmic scale..."

I don't understand the whole "boomer shooter" thing, when I suspect it was primarily gen X developing and playing DOOM, Quake, etc.
It feels like giving credit to those who don't deserve it. IIRC, boomers were the ones trying to get these titles banned for violent content.
We might as well not exist. If I posted a picture of myself and asked 100 young people what generation I fit, bet 90+ come back with Boomer. Guess it serves us right for all the slacking.
I've had the same thoughts ever since I first heard the term. The gaming world seems to excel in making up stupid names for genres. Boomer shooter is a perfect example of this. These games have absolutely nothing to do with boomers or boomer style thinking, yet here we are.
Now that I've started, I'm gonna rant about character action games too. What the fuck is that? Most games have characters and those characters perform actions. Mario? Character action game. Halo? Character action game. Puzzle Bobble? You guessed it! Character action game. It's such a generic and non descriptive name that can be applied to almost any game. And don't get me started about "shmups!" 🙄
Yeah, there may have been some actual boomers in the development somewhere, but the players were definitely skewed hard to gen-x. Even the boomers that did play weren't in the first wave of players (for the most part), they picked it up afterwards.
