For those of us crazy or stupid enough to love ultra running. Saw that there wasn't an ultra specific running community yet and figured I'd start one up.

For hours, Katie Schide chased ghosts. For hours, Jim Walmsley and Rod Farvard chased each other. And in the end, after 100 courageous, gutsy miles at one of the world’s most iconic ultramarathons, it was Schide and Walmsley who won a fast, dramatic 2024 Western States 100.

The British ultrarunner Jasmin Paris has become the first woman to ever finish the notorious Barkley Marathons race in Tennessee.

The forty-year-old was one of only five runners to complete this year’s event, which is made up of five punishing 20-mile loops around the Frozen Head State Park. Paris’s finishing time was 59 hours, 58 minutes and 21 seconds – 99 seconds inside the 60-hour cut-off.

Hey all,

Since starting to integrate more trail running into my regular runs and typically aiming for at least 1 solid long run on a mountain (1000m / 3000ft elevation gain) weekly, I've found that if I still want to maintain high mileage weekly that I struggle to have days where I integrate speed work. I often feel like my legs/muscles are sore enough that my gut instinct is the risk of injury from the speed session is higher than the gain from doing it.

In addition I just find the trail and mountain runs much more enjoyable so don't feel compelled to downgrade my longer trail runs to add in speed sessions.

Curious how speed sessions factor in for others and how easy/manageable it is for you to add it in during especially higher trading periods either by volume or elevation.

Interesting article and initiative about trying to support people with less resources who want to participate in ultra running.

Would you consider ultra running a cheap or expensive sport/hobby to engage in?

If you had the capability to create a race with no restrictions/limitations on what was possible, what would it be? What is your dream race that doesn't exist as an actual event, but you wish it did?

With ultramarathon and ultrarunning both being private on Reddit currently, how much extra running are you hoping to get in during the downtime?
