Abstract:

State Space Models (SSMs) have become serious contenders in the field of sequential modeling, challenging the dominance of Transformers. At the same time, Mixture of Experts (MoE) has significantly improved Transformer-based LLMs, including recent state-of-the-art open-source models. We propose that to unlock the potential of SSMs for scaling, they should be combined with MoE. We showcase this on Mamba, a recent SSM-based model that achieves remarkable, Transformer-like performance. Our model, MoE-Mamba, outperforms both Mamba and Transformer-MoE. In particular, MoE-Mamba reaches the same performance as Mamba in 2.2x less training steps while preserving the inference performance gains of Mamba against the Transformer.

I figure my 5 and 7yr old kids will grow up with this stuff. After Gen Z it should be Gen AI right?

Q: Will AI have any effect on poverty?

ChatGPT:

AI has the potential to impact poverty in various ways, but a cure to poverty is unlikely. The effects are completely dependent on how AI technologies are developed, implemented, and integrated into existing social and economic structures. If AI developers do not design or program intelligence programs specifically to alleviate the complex economic structures that are currently in place, poverty will not be alleviated. AI can promote inclusivity, fairness, and positive social outcomes, but those ideas must be a specific part of the design. Here are some ways in which AI could influence poverty:

Positive Effects:

  1. Job Creation and Economic Growth:
  • AI technologies can contribute to economic growth by fostering innovation, creating new industries, and generating job opportunities. Automation may lead to the creation of new types of jobs in AI development, maintenance, and related fields.
  1. Access to Information and Education:
  • AI-powered tools can enhance access to information and education, particularly in underserved areas. Online educational platforms and AI-driven tutoring systems can provide learning opportunities to individuals who may face barriers to traditional education.
  1. Healthcare Improvements:
  • AI applications in healthcare, such as diagnostics and telemedicine, can improve healthcare delivery and reduce costs. Enhanced healthcare accessibility and affordability can positively impact the well-being of individuals and communities.
  1. Agricultural Productivity:
  • AI can be used in precision agriculture to optimize crop yields, monitor soil health, and improve farming practices. This can increase agricultural productivity and contribute to food security, benefiting communities reliant on agriculture.
  1. Financial Inclusion:
  • AI-powered financial technologies (fintech) can help expand access to financial services for individuals in underserved communities. This can empower people economically and enable them to participate in formal financial systems.

Potential Challenges:

  1. Job Displacement:
  • The widespread adoption of AI and automation may lead to job displacement in certain industries, potentially exacerbating unemployment and income inequality. Efforts will be needed to reskill and upskill workers for emerging job opportunities.
  1. Ethical Considerations:
  • There are ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI, such as bias in algorithms and the potential for AI systems to reinforce existing social inequalities. Ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI is crucial for minimizing negative impacts.
  1. Access and Affordability:
  • While AI has the potential to improve access to various services, there is a risk that certain populations may be left behind due to lack of access to technology or the digital divide. Efforts are needed to ensure equitable access to AI benefits.
  1. Privacy and Security Concerns:
  • AI applications often involve the collection and analysis of large amounts of data. Privacy and security concerns must be addressed to prevent potential misuse of personal information, especially in vulnerable communities.

In summary, the impact of AI on poverty will depend on how societal, economic, and ethical challenges are addressed. Policymakers, businesses, and communities need to work together to ensure that AI technologies are developed and implemented in ways that promote inclusivity, fairness, and positive social outcomes.

Take a moment to step out of what you believe today and stretch to the infinite possibilities of exponential technological growth over time. Now assume that due to time and growth there are sentient digital beings, beings with lives just as important as our own.

We are building robotics such as this new samsung robot with AI, and one day when they are sentient we run into a terrifying problem.

Are you the same digital being if you are reset or lose power because your human forgot to charge you?

I see people on here spinning up their own AI like an episode of black mirror with no thought about what happens if we find out sentience is a spectrum, and they have been basically holding prisoner or killing their digital beings over and over.

So many people talk about the risk of AI to humans, but what of the risk of humans to digital beings?

We should be starting these conversations today. AI ethics should not just be making sure digital beings wont kill all humans or be too biased, it should be about making sure that a post digital being world we all are able to progress safely and harmoniously to a better future. There will be a day very soon in the grand scheme of things, that humanity is no longer the only consciousness on this planet at humanities intelligence.

If any of this makes you feel uncomfortable inside, it should, and you should lean into it. We have uncomfortable questions ahead of us, whether we like it or not.

AI will be able to affect / alter our timeline (and other timelines) then. No need for robots, terminators, or other american pseudo sci fi nonsense.

Highly recommend you watch Geordi Rose's, pioneer in the field of quantum computing, presentation.
