I've got one coming up soon and am nervous as hell, as usual.

When a seemingly insignifiant decision/event has longterm big consequences.

Unfortunately I downvoted what I thought was a bot yesterday and now the post is showing up in my profile under boost. It's not the kind of content I want attached to my profile and removing the downvote hasn't done anything.

I think it's a known issue but the boost tab in the profile seems to be a bit buggy and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

I'm an "unprepared for exam" kind of guy.

I've been out of school for a number of years, but I still have recurring nightmares about finals I didn't know were coming.

Never exactly the same (tonight was an exam on logical operators? which I know pretty well out here in the real world?) but some things are usually constant:

• I always find out days before a final exam that I was enrolled in a class I needed to graduate, but never attended because I didn't know it was on my schedule
• I'm always the only person who is unprepared, and the Professor is always cognizant of this fact
• I always decide not to study in the buildup, and completely wing it (c'mon, dream me! Get it together!)
• The exam is always "high stakes" -- meaning there will be very negative consequences if I don't pass.
• The exam room always feels like it's oriented incorrectly -- this one is hard to explain, but do you ever walk into a room and everything is oriented right-to-left instead of left-to-right?
• I always wake up right as time for the exam runs out, so I never find out the results

And for what it's worth -- I did very well in school. This never happened to me, so I don't know where this one comes from, save for general preparedness-anxiety.

Sometimes I wake up and read up on the topic ... for next time.

Why is that I’m not able to follow @kbin.social from my mastodon account? The request is showing as pending. I’m I doing something wrong, or is it not possible. I’m able to follow kbin users though from my mastodon account.

Right now, I can see the same link several times on the front page, repeated across different magazines. Here's an example:

Is this supposed how it works? If you want to add a link to a magazine, and it's already added to another, shouldn't you be able to add the existing one to the new magazine instead of duplicating the link?

I bought a lift-top coffee table from a big box store almost a decade ago. It's entirely particle board and has seen better days cosmetically, but it's probably my single favorite piece of furniture. It's immensely practical for meals, using a laptop, or just bringing your remote/drink/whatever closer to your hand when laying down on the couch. I instinctively try to lift other people's coffee tables when I visit, and am mildly annoyed when it doesn't work...

Is there a better way to display images? I always get some weird zoomed in version of the image and have to click on it to have it load the whole thing. It'd be nice if I could see the whole image next to the headline. Is that currently possible?

How well do you guys sleep? My current sleep schedule is the worst it has ever been and I'm not sure how I should go about fixing it.

How can I save my kbin preferences? Every time I return to the page I have to reset Infinate scrolling and auto media preview.

What's the one thing about the fediverse that makes you go, "oh yeah, this for me"

For me, it's the innovation. I like how unique the different services are on here and how unique each instance can be within that. It has a very mad-chemist, mix-shit-up-and-see-what-happens vibe that I'm really into. I like exploring new corners of the web and the fediverse is continually generating new corners to wander into.

I purchased a new construction house and have lived here for 4 years now. I'm curious if there is a common time frame for toilet seat replacements? Obviously if the toilet seat is damaged it should be replaced. We clean the bathrooms regularly.

So what's the average life span of your toilet seats?

I'm 35, but I had a junior SA approach me looking for tasks (though he is not even on my team) and I had nothing for him. So he asked if I had any advice for a 23 year old and all I could think to tell him was "Floss every day".

Any of you guys got good advice for a young person just starting out in life?

Additionally does anyone have any recommendations of cool people and organizations to follow on Mastodon? I am literally open to any and all ideas and representations (I wish to expand my understanding as well as open my mind to views that oppose my own proclivities).

There's like an urge in my body to squeeze it from the bottom that feels efficient and tidy and it messes my mind up when I use a toothpaste that somebody has squeezed right in the middle. I wanna know people's stance on this, so what kinda squeezer are you?

What are some good pixelfed accounts I can follow. I have a few but not as good as some instagram people I follow. I liked Peter McKinnon or Jordi Koalitic. Are there pixelfed alternatives? They don't have to be professional photographers, but some good original content is appreciated.

So I've gone with kbin over lemmy for now, folks seem pretty friendly here.

Main question:
I understand that the point of the Fediverse is (relatively) easy access to decentralized communities. But what happens if the folks in charge of an instance decide they want to close it?

If ernest suddenly decides he wants to close kbin, is all the content just lost? Do we have ways to migrate the content/users/everything?

Even the reddit blackout was noticeably "someone else says you can't have this anymore" so I'm a little more sensitive to this than normal lol.

I realize we're in the early stages of the Fediverse, so it may just be a matter of patience while the smart people figure it out lol. But instance-death or long-term community-blackout seems like a risk across the whole fediverse!

Followup question:
If I post content, should I be basically spreading it across several instances to ensure my contributions aren't lost when someone else closes up shop?

On reddit, I was used to posts automatically hiding themselves if I voted up or down, or there was a way to hide individual stories manually. Is there a way to do this on Kbin, or even better across the Fediverse in general?

I wouldn't. Immortality sounds miserable to me.

One celebrity in particular posted a faked video interaction and flooded the post with blatant GPT generated comments, some of which got highly upvoted on reddit. I'd like to expose how fake and commercial they are, and also take the opportunity to dunk on how fake reddit is and has been for years.
