I keep seeing posts from Lemmy or Beehaw instances, but the “from” label seems to cut off part of the full name. For example, a post “chat@beehaw.org” will just show “from Chat,” and I can’t tell it’s a Beehaw instance unless I click on it and scroll to the bottom of all of the comments to see all the information that identifies it as a Beehaw instance. Is there a way to be able to see this information without having to do all that scrolling?

Edit: it also gets more confusing that some posts will straight up say “kbin.social” next to the post title even if they were posted in a different instance. I don’t understand why this happens.

I noticed that some people just have an extreme hatred for furries.
I have a friend and I would not call him a generally intolerant person at all, he knows I am homosexual and never cared unlike all other people I have ever told about that(around 6 people), but he has an extreme hatred for anything furry. Like on the level of "All furries should be killed" not the usual shit we can read on the internet.

I do not understand it, but there is really no way to get him to any not as extreme standpoint.

For me, the first thing I'd do is clear my family of all debts(or whatever financial issues) there is and then the second thing i'd do is buy a hundred Siomai for me to eat

What are you buying if you won One billion dollars?

How can you have 1000+ hours in a single game, work on a personal project for 10 months, spend 4 years writing a novel?

I used to use flipboard, then once I got hooked on Reddit I got lazy and just started getting all my news from there.

Since this place is still getting its start thought I might go back to one to supplement me. Where you guys get your news?

I'm seeing a lot of chat about the migration of "reddit brand" concepts like AMA and IAmA. We should probably come up with alternatives? Who's got some suggestions?

They drive me nuts. I don't want anything vulgar, just something that'll really upset them.

Is there a place to file a bug report or is there a list of known issues with kbin?

For instance on my home page the "random posts" shows posts from magazines that I have blocked. To test this I blocked @random because there's always a post from there to see for me, and sure enough it still shows up.

Can I subscribe to Lemmy communities from kbin? If so, how?

Why am I not receiving any notifications?

I have active threads with replies here on kbin, but I'm not getting any notifications for them in the notifications tab. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Not sure what to do....

I’m trying to get my head wrapped around the identity (or purpose) of Kbin.

I tried out #Lemmy and #Kbin for a little more than a week each and found Lemmy a lot easier to onboard. You create posts that you post in communities. And you have threads of posts within communities that are centered around a common topic. Very similar to a forum. The terminology used is relatable since “community” also has meaning in other parts of life.

The curiosity in me always keeps going back to Kbin and really wanting to understand it more. Partially because Kbin’s UI/UX was more engaging. But the terminology was a bit confusing at first until I did some research and read the FAQ posts. Magazines = communities. Articles = posts that goes within the magazines. But the one part that still confused me was the “post” option that goes to a completely different microblog section. For the life of me, I couldn’t grasp what or why there was a microblog section for a link aggregator software. And when do I create an article versus a post.

It finally all clicked when I came across this thread in Kbin’s code repo: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/406. I finally understood the reasoning behind the Microblog section and that it interacts with other parts of the Fediverse (i.e. Mastodon). And that if setup properly, Magazines can pull in Mastodon (and other Fediverse software) posts based on tags and it goes to the Microblog section for that Magazine.

My question to the community is this. What is Kbin trying to be? What is its purpose? It seems like it’s trying to be a link aggregator and a microblogging software, but I could be wrong. Why use Kbin over Mastodon to post a microblog to the Fediverse? Genuinely curious!

For me i would just place like random paintings, like NASA would be very confused on why Mars would have paintings lmao.

How do I send a private message to another fediverse user from kbin? I thought maybe if I viewed their profile I'd have the option, but nothing obvious stood out.

Right now the homepage is equivalent to /r/all, how do I view all content from a subset of magazines. Say I want to read Diablo related content, a quick search on magazines shows that there are 6 magazines from kbin and lemmy. Is it possible to setup a feed that shows content from all 6? Because if i enter /m/diablo4 i only get content from /m/diablo4 and not the others.

Can I block/unsub certain magainzes from other fedis? For example I am getting a lot of .de content, and I can't read the language, and would rather not see it.

Is there a way to collapse a comment in a thread's comment section?

I don't know if there's something I'm missing or not, but it seems like I can't collapse a comment in the comment section of a post. This is kind of a big issue for me as I like to collapse comments I've read in order to keep track of comments, especially as I work my way down a comment tree.
