I don't actually think that, but wanted to be the first to complain about it.

This probably needs some explaining. So for example, the movie Die Hard.

If John McClain or even some of the hostages whipped out the game and started playing the game and unleashing the animals, and bugs and monsoons, I think the movie potentially gets resolved more quickly. The terrorists can’t contain the abrupt chaos. They’ll be far too distracted and the police outside can possibly resolve the situation sooner.

Of course there is the probability that some of the hostages don’t make it, but I think there’s a decent chance.

What other movies/tv shows would give the same sort of chances?

Is there a kbin Android app yet? I know the web app works, which is what I'm using now, but would really like a native app. I'm assuming these are being worked on and just need time to bake!

Why is no one using CSS to make their magazine's visual appearances more unique? That was the main draw of old Reddit for me.

(I mean I am, but that is why I asked)

I imagine with the expected influx of new users on the 1st a lot of the questions that have been asked here will be asked again.

What’s one thing that would have made the transfer to Kbin or Lemmy easier for you?

How do I do "front pages" in kbin?
Where do I go to only see posts from magazines I'm subscribed to?
Where do I go to only see microblog posts from users that I follow?

Whenever my mom says "Tell the truth you won't be in trouble." I would almost always end up telling the truth and i end up getting in trouble and she would talk to my dad and all kinds of things, what's the most successful Lie in History?

Curious on some replies here. I always hear having bees go extinct would be horrible for us. Curious if that’s the worse?

There used to be a water park in my hometown that had a bunch of slides and a wave pool. I used to go there all the time as a kid, and even went there as a senior on a trip. I went to birthday parties there, sometimes.

It closed in 2020 and never reopened because they had apparently been avoiding paying bills for years. It wasn’t just the pandemic. It was visible from the freeway, so I watched it slowly being demolished over the next couple years any time I passed by.

I haven’t found a water park that really compared to it yet. Most are either too small or part of a larger theme park, which is fine. It just seemed like the fact that it exclusively was a water park allowed it to focus more on the atmosphere and types of slides it had.

For me, it's the 2000's television news opening from the belgian TV named "La Une". It rocks and brings back memories.

Hey all.
So I was asked recently to look into security systems for their house. I was wondering if some of you have experiences, resources, and recommendations I can base my research on. What could be things to look out for?

Their basic requirements are: a window opening alarm; the same for the door; and a camera system with at least one camera, but maybe more (sorry for not knowing the technical terms of each... :P).

Now, I don't want to recommend anything that relies on a remote server, especially not for the camera feed. Not only for privacy reasons, but I'm also afraid that the system is e-waste, if the service ceases to exist in the future (i.e. because the company goes away or the service is not profitable anymore). I also have some experience with setting up a home assistant instance with a camera and motion detectors, but I'm still a bit hesitant to whether I want to set up (and then probably also maintain and being responsible for it to work) their system. I'm fairly certain they wouldn't be able to do that by themself.

Maybe there is such a all-in-one, offline solution already? I could probably get myself to setting up a Raspberry Pi with Tailscale or something similar, as this seems low maintenance and high reliability.

Curious to hear your opinions. :)

How do I hide (blacklist) certain magazines from showing up on All?

I love to browse All to find new popular magazines every day. However, I can't speak German and a significant portion of my All page is in German.

Is there any way to keep browsing All but filter out specific magazines of my choosing? Or even better, is there a language selection I can set somewhere?

Why is my Facebook so full of right wing baloney?

Literally every other suggested post is about anti-trans stuff or gun rights. Is it because I commented once in a thread about how Trudeau isn't a fascist?

Often times when duckduckgoing (is that the right term for that) advice for products, I use the !ddgr key to directly search reddit for advice. But in a post-blackout world, I need to do this a lot less. So I want to know what the best places are to get reviews and advice for products that are human and not top 10 listicals.

Like if I use an unfamiliar text box I always specifically type "samd" for some reason. I'm just curious if it's not just me or if everyone just keyboard mashes, or even thinks about it at all.

I have no idea where to find that "delete" button...

Add a link to an article or other coverage of the mystery if you can.

Here's one: The Max Headroom signal hijacking incident

In 1987, two individuals hijacked television signals of two TV stations at night and broadcasted creepy footage of someone wearing a Max Headloom mask and costume to viewers. They were never identified.

Personality i would pick Bernie Sanders but he's unfortunately too old now but i would love a President that isn't crazy enough and would focus on just getting the Nation healed from the Craziness that happened.
