If I follow a person, not subscribing to a magazine, what does that do for me? Do I see their posts/comments somewhere; if so where?
Also, do boosts factor into that or are they purely to bump stuff up in the algorithm?

Logged in a few minutes ago and noticed that reputation in my account was much higher then before. Guessing it might be counted now.

Is it possible to stop the screen from rotating on the Kbin app when my phone rotates? I have my phone settings so it shouldn't rotate from vertical to horizontal but for some reason only the app does it, anyone know if this can be turned off?

What is the possible reason why upvotes in Kbin do not add up to the overall Reputation, but downvotes do?

I've gone back and noticed that sometimes a handful of people had responded to a previous comment and I never realized it.

As it stands, it seems you only get notifications if people actually manually mention your username. Is there any method to get post/thread reply notifications?

I was born and raised in America, and for some reason I have this classic notion in my head that people should be dancing at weddings.

However, now that many of my friends from earlier in life and college are getting married, when I go to those weddings, the dance, if they even have one, is on a tiny dance floor, maybe even just a small part of their reception hall that they scooted the chairs and tables out away from.

And it turns out, many people simply don't know how to dance. Sure, not everyone is a competitive ballroom dancer, but even my non-dancer friends in college would still go to swing dancing night and mess around on the dance floor.

Now, however, people just stand on the dance floor and sway or shuffle. I am loth to even call it dancing. It just seems like people are uncomfortable and not really having fun.

What happened? Did people stop dancing?

What are some tips for dealing with solicitors (door-to-door salespeople)? Our neighborhood gets a lot of them.

We have a “No solicitors” sign hanging on the front door. Nevertheless, they knock, ring the doorbell, or worse, yell through the front window when it is open, trying to get our attention.

We have a Ring video doorbell and have enabled the automatic “Sorry, we’re not interested” announcement after 15 seconds. These pushy SOBs ignore the sign and the announcement.

When I ultimately find out they are soliciting and I ask why they ignored both the sign and the doorbell announcement, they usually say something like, “I’m not selling anything. I am just working with some people in the neighborhood…” or some such BS.

My wife and I work from home and have had to explain the window shouting to coworkers in meetings. We also have two small children who could be trying to nap at any given time. We have good reasons to not want to be disturbed at home and these assholes disregard that wish.

I will write a negative review online if I find out their name and company they are representing. Any other ways to get these people to leave us alone?

I love KFC, when me and my family are poor(and still are) i would go and eat KFC like almost every single week and it was cheap here + Delicious aswell. I loved KFC Fries the Most, it was so delicious. If i had enough money, i would buy enough of KFC and be a fat man in the week LMAO

why do threads that reference articles on outside sites redirect to kbin and not the outside site? (for example, worldnews often shows the external news site, but clicking the link takes you to a kbin.social post showing all the threads referencing that news site, not the actual site and story itself)

Do we have such a thing? Is it a feature yet to be added? Does any app allow this? Does a script allow for such behaviour? So many questions, sorry.

I feel this would be very useful. Throughout the Fediverse, we have loads of magazines/communities (Whatever you wish to call them) that can be the same title. As in, they can all be about the same topic, but what gets posted to these magazines can be different. There seems to be endless 'Technology' magazines, and it's a very vague title. Yes, some are empty, and may never get filled. Hopefully they will at some point. If we could throw all these 'Technology' magazines into one folder, bookmark, subreddit, (Oh I hate using anything Reddit related, that place is in the past. Makes me feel dirty.) We can then open that folder, bookmark, or subreddit rather than front-page, subscriptions, etc... get all the posts in one. If any of that makes sense?

Essentially, can we get some tools to help organise all these magazines please?

I would ideally like to follow their profile and see about future updates.

I really do like KBin and Lemmy and the fediverse on the whole, but development is still young and the userbase still growing. KBin is still basically early access, and Lemmy is buggy. I spent alot of time in reddit and I'm feeling the pain of trying to ween myself from it. Just wanted to here community perspectives and see how other's are taking it.

For me, I feel a bit of a sore hollow spot for what reddit used to be and watching it implode is not fun for me.

I'm going to guess that it indicates a tense change, so like in my example in the post title maybe the quote was "asked you" and I changed it to "ask[ ] you" to fit my sentence. I went to a lot of schooling but I don't recall this empty brackets usage. I figure, why not Ask Kbin!

I was working as a stockboy in a supermarket and when we had to fill the milk cooler people would bust open a 12 pack of milk cartons and put them in one by one.

On my first day I just placed the 12 pack in the cooler and cut the plastic off on one side with my box cutter and yanked it from under it and the look of the store manager and the other employee who was training me was pure bewilderment.

From that day everyone did it my way.

I am still working full-time remote. There are definitely some social aspects of going to the office I miss, but I really don't miss the commute or the shitty office politics. Overall I feel I am still more productive from home and happier overall.

Shortly after I joined, I created https://lemmy.world/c/breath_of_the_wild and I've been uploading my content from reddit to that community since then. Today I got a question from someone on kbin.social and I decided to check out this other instance(?) only to find out that "my community" is run by another dude over there: https://kbin.social/m/breath_of_the_wild@lemmy.world

I have no idea who this Earnest guy even is, but as you can see this is clearly 1:1 the content I posted to my own community. I've literally never spoken to him before. What's that about?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but it pretty much says it all in the title. I've read a few guides but they don't seem to answer my questions about posting. I quit Facebook and Twitter over 10 years ago and this is my first social media account since then.

What makes you get up every morning and motivates you to push forward? For me at the moment it's my pet rats. They'd die without me and I feel needed.

How can I make the Home page of the app default to my subscribed magazines? I changed it in the settings but it keeps defaulting to "all"

Just like what the title say, is there a way to do it in kbin? I find it cumbersome that all comments are expanded. At Lemmy I can shrink/expand comment, but Lemmy is too buggy, so I prefer to use kbin. Thanks

I ask because I've been doing a lot of research the last few weeks and Google search has really let me down. I've been finding better results on DuckDuckGo and Bing. Is this a recent thing with Google or am I out of the loop? Any other search recommendations?
